Did he not sign on the rest day of the Tour?
That's the story, but it hasn't been officially announced yet

any idea why not?
Because it cannot be announced before August 1st. It's possible it'll be announced today, remember Trek is an American team and in the US it is still early.

Degenkolb and De Kort is confirmed to Trek already today...

Unfortunately. the only times Contador has preferred to race La Vuelta, his homeland GT, has been after bans and crashes

If you look at it year by year, most of them make sense though. Only 2007 and 2009 stand out as years he really missed out. In 2010 the Tour tests were back, in 2011 he rode the Giro, in 2012 he did ride, in 2013 he was terrible, and I doubt he would have done well anyway. In 2014 he planned to do both, but crashed out in the Tour, in 2015 he rode the Giro, and in 2016 it's the same as in 2014.

Now of the years where he didn't try, I can understand 2007 because I suddenly winning your first Tour takes a lot out of you mentally. 2009 I've always found a shame because he was so good, and because the WCRR was one of the best possibilities there have been for him.

In 2010 he was notified of the positive sometime in late August (google says 24th of August). Vuelta started on the 28th. I do not recall that he was planning to ride the Vuelta before he knew of the test results.

Also, he could have done more to help position Kreuziger before the last climb on Saturday instead or riding like they were on two different teams

Lol roundabout, contador can't position well with 8 teammates around him, how is he gonna help kreuziger in that? :p

Would be a shame if he crashed ahead of Kreuziger and took him down as well. Cant run that risk

Jokes aside, I may be reaching a bit, but I don't think the argument that Contador has treated the Vuelta as a plan B his whole career despite being Spanish can be so easily dismissed. I am aware of his record, I know the history, but he didn't in 2007, 2009, 2010 or 2013.

He won the race 3 times, he respect the race enough to only do it when he can win it.

And all years had valid excuses, valvpiti still needs to get over the tour ;)

Contador doesn't care about la vuelta. He is spanish but he always said that his favourite race is il giro. He targets le tour only because le tour is the biggest race in the world.

Again, it has absolutely nothing to do with the Tour. Why you keep repeating that is a mystery to me. It sucked, regardless of who performed well and bad and who won.

Of course Contador wasn't the leader except on the PR front.
Obviously, even if he would line up for Tour of Qatar he'd probably be the "leader".
So why team promoted him as a leader at San Sebastian? I don't get it.

Because Contador actually has some PR-value contrary to your man Kreuziger. Virtually no one is interested in Kreuziger. Go figure! :D

the nature of the thread is that most people care about kreuziger only like a military unit in support of AC whilst other big riders are just foes, a hurdle on the way to the desired result - ac winning. no wonder as the topic is a saga about quasi-reality with a virtual contador as a protagonist.

Even if he's the leader, it's not Contador's fault that his team doesn't have more competent riders.

He never tried to win this race, neither did he have the capabilities to do, neither any claim that he was gonna try and win it. Just like in '08 when he won the vuelta and 2 stages bro.

Anything else?
I'm wondering what your stand is going to be now that Roman will most likely be a Leader or Co leader at his new team. are you going to expect whatever your wish Contador had done? or are you going to cut him some slack?

I don't care about Kreuziger, and i even if i expect 1/10 of what i expect from Contador he'll still disappoint.

After his win in Tour of Denmark, Bennati said he wants to ride the Vuelta. Great guy for Contador to have for the flats.
Do we know which other riders might make the team?

I already speculated baout that, I think that:

Berto
Bennati
Boaro
Bodnar
Valgren
Kreuziger
Hansen
Poljanski
Rovny/Trofimov if raised from death/Kiserlovski if recovered/Paulinho/McCarthy

Benna, Boaro, Bodnar and Valgren are needed for TTT (and flat)
Kreuziger, Hansen und Poljanski for mountains...I know - it is weak, but Tinkoff is a weak team.
Then I expect Rovny or Paulinho or Robert Kiserlovski in case he softpedalled the end of tour and can recover. No idea what's Jay McCarthy doing, could be also useful.

I don't say that this is the only possibility, but looking at the squad (minus Sagan (mtb) and minus doubleGTlegs (Majka, Tosatto)) I can't see any better variants, so I am afraid that if the managers don't follow me, they will **** it up.

Vuelta team just got even weaker, Hansen broke his collarbone during training. :(

I wish Roman well! But frankly I just don't care what he does.

Will be in for a hard time on Neila, Yates is in monster shape.

You can start a panic then, vuelta is still far off ;)

btw Contador will have to be really bad to get dropped by yates on any mountain
