Really? He wasn't competitive at the Vuelta?
Really he was? He was competitive for a normal cyclist, not for someone who has done the things he has done.
I would consider his performance in San Sebastian this year to qualify as "not competitive", and possibly Algarve as well. In all other races, including the Vuelta he was right at the pointy end.

When someone asks "does anyone know if he's going to be competitive?" they probably want to know if he'll cruise to the finish or not, not necessarily if he is going to win.

contador il lombardia and abu dhabi?.. meh. He will be somewhere at the back probably,.. fulfilling his contract.

Shame he's not doing Milano-Torino which he would probably have more chance of winning. Also, if the team wants points then why not send him to the Japan Cup instead of Abu Dhabi Tour where he'd have a decent chance of winning and less chance of a nasty crash.

There are no points available at the Japan Cup and neither are there any at the Abu Dhabi Tour for that matter.
I don't think the chances of a crash are higher in Abu Dhabi than in Japan.
The only reason I'd want him to go to Japan instead is because he has a lot of Japanese fans and they'd love to meet him, I doubt he has many fans in the UAE.

I suppose it's Boonen's nasty crash that makes me worried and the fact that there are 3 sprint stages which are the worst for crashes. Admitedly Contador may not be trying too hard to stay up there on sprint stages in the way that he would in a GT. I'm not familiar with the profile of the Japan Cup but I assume it must be hilly as I remember Basso winning it in the past and I think he would be less likely to crash in a 1 day hilly race.

The Japan Cup circuit isn't all that hard, you just have to look at the results in previous years to realize Contador would have only a slight chance to do well.
I don't expect him to do much in these last few races anyway.

Edit: this is the profile

"When you’re against teams, for example, like Team Sky, who have 18 riders who could be at the start of the Tour de France and then you have a smaller team that maybe has 11 riders and you lose a rider then it could be very important."

and then you choose to sign with trek

makes sense.

Trek have some decent rouleurs for the flats and some decent climbers as well. If they ride organized he should be better off than at Tinkoff, though there would be no Sagan and or to drag his ass in the echelons. If he is to win, he has to be better than Mollema anyway, which should secure his efforts as well.

Where did this talk come that Mollema might be better than Contador? Hahaha, i mean Red Rick, how can you even think about that for a sec?

He crashed 3 times in 2 months and suffered an injury from it. Last year which is only what 14 months ago? He won the giro and was 5th in the tour, without that one crash prob 4th. Only 14 months ago, the flow of time counts but let's not be ridiculous. Even at the age of 40 Contador will still be better than Mollema.

Contador is gonna win every race next year, he's back on Trek. We all know how he was in 2009. Winning every ITT, winning every MTF.

"The numbers on the SRM were better than ever."

luv you alberto.
:p

If this is true those crashes must have been brutal. the one into the curb at the Tour certainly looked like it.

I don't think we should assign too much relevance to that statement since he said the same in 2013 ;)
I always thought he was talking about his weight being at an all time high

The Cycling News headline doesn't exactly match what he said in the interview.

"Of course I can win another Tour de France"

vs

CN: Do you think that you still have a Tour de France victory in you?

AC: We will see. I think so. If I didn’t believe that I still had the ability to win the Tour de France then I would finish cycling.

That's what the journalists always do. They ask someone a question, if they say yes, then they state it like the person made that very claim himself.

In this case, itisnt so bad, journalists have done worse stuff, they're scum after all. Just like politicians

That has absolutely nothing to do with it, except that it would seem to me that everything on this board all comes back to fans of one rider. Nevertheless, here's why it's far less worse than journo's.
- They just state their own opinion or wishes
- They don't wrongly quote a rider
- They have far less exposure
- They don't make money doing it

But hey,
