On a positive note Alberto moved to 13th on GC. How many minutes can he take on everyone in the TT not named Froome , Nibali or TJ?

He will move up bit by bit !. He is better than 99% of the people in front.

Me too :(
But what a photo... tells a story

And what a story it has been!

That pic will be my avatar when he retires :(.

Me three. It is a stunning photo.

For some reason, it made me think of this: https://www.bicycling.com/bullfight

I've always appreciated that Contador seems well-designed for what he's good at. He's obviously slim, but he doesn't look like he's starved - no popping out veins, no aetiolated frame, no tendons rearing out of inner elbows. If there's one thing I really dislike in modern cycling its for the obsession with weight making GC riders looking little more than bobbin headed sticks of grissini.

That is normal. A guy like Froome has to look more "emaciated" than Contador, since he has to climb very well and, since he is tall, he has to lose a lot of weight, particularly in the upper body. And since he's not only taller, but also obviously has longer arms, he'll seem like a skeleton. Bardet, to a lesser extent, also looks similar to Froome, much like Wiggins.

Quintana, for example, seems stockier than both Contador and Froome. It's perfectly normal, since he smaller.

Yeah when Evans stood next to them he looked like a weightlifter especially Andy but Evans was only 174 cms. Contador is only 176 I think.

That's a great photo.

Stop the cries guys...a podium is very possible, Froome could have an issue, who knows? Bertie is the second best rider as I see it. Podium, cheers, cool. But if Froome gets a Porte exit, well, who knows? At least he tries...Amgliru and a mythic, epic win? Who knows? Things will happen. Good or bad. At least, Berto will not pretend to attack like the TdF contenders. He will attack. For real.

When he does attack for real, will it last? He tried it in the tour but he didn't quite have the stamina to go all the way and finish it off. Also would any of the other GC guys want to try and break away with contador only to help contador to get closer to those that broke away with him and thus maybe giving contador the chance to better their position later in the race? If contador goes on the attack, he gonna take a whole load of leaders with him including Froome because they know he's a dangerous rider no matter how far behind he is.

Yeah.

But he doesn't give a sh*t and rides anyway. But I'm reasonably confident that Froome himself would be glad to take the opportunity to ride with him, as would also Nibali and Aru if having the legs.

I genuinely believe Alberto will be enjoying very much this Vuelta racing it that way, even if he doesn't end up on the podium (he will anyway, in fact, if not for the special honour also with the Supercombativo). By the way, wouldn't it be great if he can manage sneaky Chaves into the red jersey, ending up himself on the 3rd spot?

But also a Froome victory, with the two of them giving one last two weeks of showtime in the high mountains would be very nice and would also add some credit to Froome in the traditional cycling world.

I don't give two *** about Froome and his image in the "traditional cycling world".
He doesn't deserve the honor of having Alberto next to him on the podium.
No, please let Alberto finish 4th with a stage win, he'll be on the podium (all by himself) during the tribute anyway.
And we can keep the "9 podiums, 9 wins" tale alive.

Thats really incredibly selfish on your part. I doubt Contador dislike Froome as much as you do and I doubt he will think to himself: "I can finish 3rd, but this donkey is winning so I won't even bother as he doesn't deserve such a great champion as me next to him."

Really, thats a bit too far.

On the other hand, a podium would prove some idiots wrong but then again, idiots will be idiots and there's a big chance they'd never admit they were wrong. So yeah, hoping for a stage win (NOT a gift) and a high GC placing but preferably not a podium.

I can easily fancy Bertie not winning any grand tour in his career with this way of thinking. ;) Luckily, he's actually way more rational which helped him to become a legendary bike racer.

I doubt Contador dislike Froome at all. They often speak before, during the race, and after, always greet each other when they meet, one would say they get along pretty well...
