Personally I didnt like the other day when Contador crashed and both Roche and Kreuzinguer remained in the front group (correct me if wrong but I remember Roche for sure).

I fear Riis perhaps doesn't fully trust Alberto for a podium bid, althought it doesn't make much sense with guys like Roche or Kreuzinguer.

No it was cos they heard that all would be given same time and they wanted Roche to keep a good spot in the GC so their get a good spot in the car caravan. But yeah they likely kept Kreuziger up there just in case...

It was Kreuziger. I noticed they were often lookibg back worried for Contador

Maybe Alberto wasn't present at the front, because he told Roche to be there:

From Nicolas Roche diary:

I was sitting in seventh or eight position, alongside my team leader Alberto Contador when, sensing the danger, he turned to me and told me to close the gap. I did maybe a 40-second sprint before settling into a good tempo at the front of the peloton.

I knew the guys ahead weren't going to waste their energy riding 100m in front of the bunch to the finish, especially as it was only the third day of the Tour, and my presence on the front was probably enough for them to ease up a bit. It wasn't long before they were back in the fold.

Great article thanks for sharing :)

Hope Saxo has a good ride today and Alberto is feeling better from his injuries :)

Nice diary from Roche. It seems like Alberto really trusts his teammates and I love Nico's confidence about the TTT--hopefully they beat Sky (I'm indifferent whether the win or lose, I want high GC placement).:D

I doubt they can beat sky. Froome and Porte by themselves can prob beat euskaltel :p

Staying within 15 sec would be good. Anything beyond that would be great.

Well, today they start 20 minutes later than SKY, and 4 minutes later than Movistar, so all chances to do a great TTT and hopefully take some time.

It would be a new situation, to actually be in front of Froomey.

well, i think that would be expected. After all what they can say? they didn't secure high placing on GC in the past 3 days. And contador is injured. Someone on the other forum *forget his name - sorry* mentioned that he went out to see the teams ride the course this morning. He mentioned that gerrant and contador were the most uncomfortable rider. Maybe contadors' injury is worst that what it actually is. If that's the case, saxo boys task is too limit the loss then. *no way they'll ride to win. unless they'll drop contador - which is not going to happen*. I hope contador is feeling better today from his injury. I want a fair battle against froome.

Not looking good according to the guy that saw Saxo for 1km. He said Bertie was riding in an 'adapted position to compensate for injury'.

Yikes :( It's going to be 2011 TdF all over again :(

We'll just have to wait and see. Maybe the warm up gets him more comfortable with the discomfort.

Riis just had a pep talk with the team, he says anything below a top 5 would be a disappointment, top 3 being realistic.

So I think Berto is ok, and he looked ok, smiling and in good mood.
Didn´t look worried one bit.

good ride by saxo. Just lost 6 seconds from sky. Alberto, he seemed powering well. Hope it's a sign of good things to come. Certainly this year TDF will be alot more challenging for him.. as far as mental and his will. Starting TDF without injury is already hard, let alone you are injured. I hope his injury will heal on time before friday and saturday. phuuufffff... not lying my heart was racing watching saxo boys...:p

Yeah, i saw it too (but I guess it was ketchup anyway;)). In the end Contador loses 6 seconds to Froome, it seems. I think he will be okay with that.

Danish reporters have been informed that Noval was hit by a photographer. Lame.

Contador to Danish TV2:

Happy with todays performance, and happy with the relatively small timedifferences of 5-10 secs to his closest rivals.
Praised the teams performance and said they were working well as a unit.
"Tomorrow 230 km recovery"

This is going to sound strange, but I think the loss of Noval cost them a bit of time. Also, rumors of Contador's demise were a bit premature. I think we have a great race ahead of us (barring any further crashes/injuries)--Saxo looks to be on par with (or dare I say slightly stronger) Team Sky, which has to worry Froome a bit (reading some of his comments, I've gotten the impression he wants to dominate/embarrass Contador)

Noval just confirmed on danish tv2

In the third or fourth turn a spectator was standing outside the barrier with his camera. Noval hit him and may have broken something in his hand. So stupid when theese kind of things happen
