Some People here greatly underestimate contador, he hasn’t lost nothing at all.
First of all in a interview 2 months ago he stated that he broke 2 times his training record this year, last time he did that according to him was 5 days before the giro 2011. Don’t see why he would lie about that, he has never been the big talk guy. So based on that alone all of you guys who say he lost it are talking bull****.
2009 obviously was a great year, in 2010 he wasn’t the same but a week before the tour or 2 weeks not sure he had the cold nonetheless he and Andy toyed with everyone else in the tour. And he also won many other things in 2010 but ok he wasn’t the same guy as in 2009 but I also think it had to do with motivation knowing Armstrong was in his team and he really wanted to prove himself.
In 2011 I though for a sec. he might have lost his touch but he was amazing even though all the dope-problems which is mentally hard to deal with. He won the giro with such ease. Scarponi was very good that year (remember how he was in Milan-sanremo) but how contador destroyed him at the etna, damn. Then Nibali, people already pointed it out that this guy was the only guy who could attack wiggins (besides froome) in this tour and sometimes gave him a hard time while contador toyed with him last year. You can’t compare it completely but still it’s an indication. Contador could have won that giro with 10 minutes if he tried.
And in the tour 2011 he wasn’t so bad, he lost 1min20 in the first stage, he fell like 3 times in the first week which hurt his knee nonetheless he ended 5th. And if he didn’t have that bad day (stage that andy won) he would have ended up at the podium. And oh yeah he attacked so many times in that tour, now that was a great tour which evans btw deserved to win. And he was 3th in the final time trial, he was just very unlucky in that tour. Now that all after one of the toughest giro ever, seriously he lost his touch??? Wtf…
This guy has the toughest mental will out there in cycling, people underestimate him dramatically on that. He survived Armstrong in his team, and that must have been hard knowing armstrong, the same with vino. He was almost dead still he came back as a cyclist. He was (‘falsely’) accused from doping still he had a great level in 2011 and is now just training the whole time breaking his records.
That’s how real champions are and that is what andy lacks most. You’ve to have that heart and Contador has the heart of a champion, he always wants to win, everywhere. I wouldn’t be surprised if he won the eneco tour, that’s just how he is, he always wants to win.
This guy is the real deal. And he will become world champion time-trail btw, I’ve seen the parcours this year and it’s made for him.
My first post and i'll directly get the image of a biased contador-fan, oh well...lol
