The only thing i don't like about this is the fact that Contador now is the big favorite for the tour.

Hopefully this won't influence Contador to try and take chances on other stages than MTF's.

well anyone who believes that Contador doesn't need teammates, i guess we got the answer today. He could have been on yellow if he got a strong team. I was amazed when the live stream started, there's no TS boys around him. Nonetheless, what a great ride by Contador. If he would have followed Nibali, he probably would still in yellow. But ow well, whoda, couda, shoulda, he came for training, at least he had a chance to practice long range attack. :D

i totally like this optimism.

more than being sad that he couldn't retain yellow, i'm happy that he is in great shape.
he basically did a solo 20+km attack and made @ 1'30 to Talansky, Nibali, etc.

I also like that he didnt do a clinically *** performance. i mean, gaining 2:30 on a strong rival solo doesnt belong to this side of forum at all. This means he is riding clean.

Also, he was making significant gains in the initial part of the climb. but after the final descent, he hardly made 10-20s. that means, he still has room to improve.

I definitely think that if he had one more rider to support him in the climb, he might have retained yellow. AC lost yellow because Saxo gave him a pathetic squad. I just hope oleg is reading this. its his fault:mad:

well, dauphene does show us, Bertie does look good in yellow!!!! :D Still, disappointed that he didn't win since it was within his grasp. Imagine, for someone who comes to train and get away with yellow jersey, not too shabby of a week of work, ey? :D. But ow well.

My pondering question is how come TS boys let Talansky slip away? Even if he got Hesjedal with him, TS boys should be able to reel them in? My guess is they got decimated since the break was too big?

No Dauphiné win for Alberto. Not even a stage. While he was clearly the strongest. :(

If someone had told you after last year's Tour that Bertie would be in such a monster form this year, I don't think you would have been sad at all ;). And since he never won Dauphine, being so close to winning it with 0 help from his team is a huge thing. Also, he sticks to the 2-1-2-1-2 rule. Which means he'll win the Tour :D

2-1-2-1-2 thing means nothing if Froome shows up at the Tour in ET form. I would prefer 2-1-2-1-1-2 over 2-1-2-1-2-2.

This is why the clip into their pedals. You never know what is going to happen. All of that being said, I would much rather be Contador than Froome at this point.

If AC is at 100%, he doesn't even need to care about Froome's form. He's such an intelligent and versatile rider that he can win races even when he's not the strongest. Also he can have a good ally in Nibs in long range moves or crazy downhill attacks

+1. Aside from the magical formula :D, now, we know, he has a chance to win TDF now. With strong team and strong form, Froome will have his hands full. And with the mistake (or whatever we want to call it), TS isn't going to make another mistake like this comes TDF. Today, he got some room to maneuver since he said he didn't come to win. So that's ok. But today he showed he is on track with his progress. He chased another GC contender and shaved off almost 50% of their lead. Typically in GT, this typical attack is usually chasing a breakaway who aren't as strong as GC guys. So that's a really good sign.

Sure, we can say we don't know how much the crash affect Froome, but today it showed that when things didn't go as plan, Froome's mental edge is crumbling. One knocked, he wavers already. Remember, sometimes you have to have luck on your side. So far this year, the lady luck has been with contador all season. I hope that's a good sign for the rest of his season.

AC doesn't have a case of the sads:

“This is by no means a disappointment. On the other hand, I'm very happy with my ride today. I felt strong. I knew it would be difficult to keep the lead but what I've achieved today is more than a victory. I'm not surprised by Andrew Talansky, he's a rider of a very high quality and he was helped by very strong team-mates like Ryder Hesjedal. After this week of racing at such a high level, I'll go for a nice pizza tonight and I'll take a good rest prior to one last training camp in the mountains and I believe I'll show up in my best shape at the start of the Tour de France on July 5.”

Imagine Froome reading this. What will he do when he he finds out that Contador wasn't even in his best shape?

Absolutely.

The only purpose of this race was to make Froome scared of not winning TdF. This race was all about the mind war, and Contador won it hands down.

I would rather see AC going in the the favorite of bookies in TdF. This tour is going to be a battle of wits more than a battle of team-strengths.
