I'd say stage 6 will be crucial. If he survives Froome&Quintana going crazy there, we can expect him to take overall / be a serious danger for these two.
yeah, this is my predection too.it will be tough, thank god its only typical 4km vuelta climb:D

Are there any similar cases in the last few years? Might be interesting to look how close to their max performance they were in the Vuelta. Gesink did great in 2009, but he managed to crash in La Vuelta too. I think Valverde also crashed out of the 2006 Tour to be great in the Vuelta?

Ofcourse, all this goes for Froome as well

He still looks pretty fit :)

Also Wiggins in 2011.

Good point about Froome's form possibly being affected by his crash as well, I can't wait till the action starts.

The team says they are going in with the expectation of winning a stage. IMO this is a realistic expectation.

However should Alberto find he can compete with the heavy hitters his expectations will change :). If he can't and targets stages there is no shame in Winning stages, those are still Wins you know! The man rides to win and a stage win is a Win. More Glory than dragging in in the top 10 IMO. Either way the race will know he is there :).

EDIT: The supporting team is not strong enough for him to win the overall unless quite a few other riders fail miserably.....

Looks like his knee bandage is down to only some fitness tape. Here's hoping it will hold! And in the Vuelta anything is possible, Horner also won with a taped up knee ;)

His legs were never out of commission, just a hand. Plenty of miles on a trainer I'm sure. Totally different than a broken leg, can't pedal a bike with one of those :(.

He still has to be right up there with Nairo going for the win. Actually toning down the training for a week probably works in his favor. Sky over trains IMO.

I think all these riders rode the best or at least close to the best they had ridden during that season.

Froome crashed out earlier and had an injury to his wrists, which means he could always train on the hometrainer. Big chance he's less affected than Contador. However, he may have a bigger chance than Contador to do a Gesink and crash in the Vuelta too:eek:

Why are people so sure about Dawg? He'd got injured about the same time as Alberto and we've learned that he (Froome) cant have much more training then AC after the fall. Both have zero races going into it.

I'd say they are pretty even assuming AC's leg is unaffected by the racing.

Whichever way you spin it he was scheduled to peak for the TDF, not the Vuelta.

Hand vs leg. Froome was off the trainer for 3 days, that is why....

This photo may show some kind of "core" exercise but maybe it's just another photo... :)

Edit. He's upper body looks nice, look at biceps. He's ready imo.

It is a difference of course but not that big of a difference as the fans make up. People in general expect Dawg to fly while they think AC can hopefully manage to drag himself around Spain and maybe win a stage in the third week. Two weeks more or less training doesnt make these kinds of differences - he was at already on a high level when he fell.

Hand vs leg is a valid point but i dont think it was as serious as we made it out to be. I mean, he could train already two weeks later.

I thought Froome had a fracture in his wrist and in the opposite hand, as well? I've never had either or tried to ride a trainer with a fractured wrist, but I would assume that he wouldn't be able to do much more than spin after someone helped him on the trainer.

Edit: he looks super fit and likes he's in a good place mentally :D

Well I'm not going to bother to go find the article where Froome talks about only missing a few days but it was on CN. Anyway this is the Alberto forum :).

Alberto looks Happy and Carefree and Fit!!!!
