Yea i agree, contador isn't ***, he must think he's a chance.

His number must have been insane in the tour that he thinks he can beat froome and the other guys after riding the giro.

Agreed.

If he can beat dawg on one leg he can easily beat Nibali or whoever shows up for the giro without peak shape. Besides, De Jongh and Yates will teach him how to peak for 6 months anyway :p

I think the insane form he felt he had at the Tour combined with the fact that he won the Vuelta quite easily without being in top form led him to take this decision for 2015.

He is confident again, but he has to work as hard as he did this year if he wants to pull it off.

That's just a stupid post. Are you the same guy as JimmyFingers?

The guy just beat Froome after a broken leg. If he does the Giro, he's clearly going for the double.

I was exaggerating, but doing the Giro makes it less likely he'll win the Tour. He's accepting that he'll be less likely to win the pinnacle of stage racing to have a chance at winning something else.

The same guy as Jimmy... my god. You've come the closest to hurting my feelings on the internet in a long time. :p

Very brave move from Bertie. If he can do the Giro/TDF double that will definitely seal his place cycling history and then why not give the Vuelta a shot, hehe...stranger things have happened!

This is awesome! We're in for a treat, if no stupid crashes happen like in this TdF.

Announcing now is a good PR and AC is probably tired of TdF and putting all eggs in one basket. Although the GT triple is maybe too hard inside one year, if he can win Giro and TdF he would have consecutive triple, though not in one year, but anyway, a triple. Has anyone already done it?

Not in one year, yes :

Hinault : Giro/82, TDF/82, Vuelta/83 (at the time it took place in the Spring), unfortunately that was the end of his fabulous winning streak as he had to undergo knee operations shortly after and had to wait until the Giro/85 for another GT win.

Yep, and that's part of the reason he's doing it. He says he needs a new goal & motivation.

Sagan won't do the Giro. No ****ing way in hell. With him they are sure to return with something from the Tour.

Maybe for the Giro he will give himself a challenge and use his arms instead of the same old by using his legs. :p

Tinkoff might have indicated that he intends the Tour team to primarily support Sagan's stage winning ambitions, forcing Contador to target the Giro instead. Contador no longer top dawg in his team :p

Can't wait. Maybe Froome will be in also, until next year's Tour people might start to forget he won a GT some time ago.

I don't believe Alberto. It's only september still.

Give me an interview when contador states he'll race something 100% and then don't ride it.

No way, he always says maybe now he already says he will ride it. What's the point of lying?

Both Merckx and Hinault has won all three GTs in a row (over two seasons), just as Alberto will do if he wins both next year.

Tinkoff-Saxo Giro team: Contador, Majka, Kiserlovski, Rogers, Zaugg, Basso, Bennati, Tossato, Sagan?

Nah Sagan is the backup plan for Le Tour, he doesnt need a train but some help to get him on the front and no more else, so they can still use quite some help for Alberto.

"It's a race that I really like. I love your roads, your people, your food and your races. My starting point for 2015 is the Giro, all the rest will come later,"

And some ppl still wonder why the italians love him haha

Well then he did a "triple": in 2008 Giro - Vuelta and then in 2009 Tour ;)

That was not three consecutive GTs.

You were wrong. Deal with it.

Easy tiger... are you going to pull off your PhD credentials too? haha

yep I didnt read his post really well and that's why I put "Triple" cuz is not consecutive and not in the same year.
