Didn't Indurain have a crazy low heartrate at rest as well? Somewhere in my mind there is a hole where it says that it was like 20-30.

Edit: in that tweet they are actually talking about Indurain and Armstrong. I'm sure that their thick blood with 60% hematocrit helped with the low heart rate :))

Isn't Froom partial to a bit of free diving also. 35 is low over an hour.

I think that picture was taken after a ride, with the heartrate being his current heart rate. 35BPM during a ride is impossible. Normal people have a resting heart rate of around 70BPM. 35 BPM after a ride seems quite impressive, I guess if he's fully relaxed it could be 30 or so. He also has a rather high max heart rate (200+ at least) while Froome's max is 150 I believe.

Froome may have a max around 150? Didn't know that. 35 after a ride is impressive I remember hearing BigMigs was around 30 many years ago.

Edit ; how can Froome produce those efforts with a low max? Seems a little odd to me.

In his book he wrote something about other riders looking at his power meter during big climbs and seeing that he was at 130BPM. Still don't see how that's relevant enough to write about it as 130BPM on a climb if your max is 200 is very impressive, while if it's 150 it's normal

I think he's the only one obsessed with his power meter. I can't imagine that anyone can get close enough without risking having Froome crash into them to see what is displayed on his power meter all while climbing a mountain in the midst of a race. I think that statement is one of a multitude of bs "facts" that were included in his book as embellishments. To make the subject seem all the more impressive and imposing to the reader.

It sounds Truly Bizarre. A effort at a max of 150 drops the best cyclists in the world? It just seems truly odd.

Quelle surprise, I agree ;)

The lower resting heart rate is usually indicative of long term cardio work isn't it? I know I came back from cycling for four months and, by coincidence, was asked to take part in some well-ness research, and was clocked with a resting heart rate of 54. I wasn't racing or anything, just cycling touring. Sadly, it's nothing like that now…! :(

Intuitively, I'd have thought, if anything, having a higher range was better? Suggests the heart is capable of shunting the blood around to match pretty much any demand. But my knowledge of the subject is virtually zero, and I've heard there's a big variation in athletes; or at least, the rowers I knew said that.

Edit -

the commentary is hilarious! I'm sorry, I was laughing at the utter nonsense most of the way through! Which God did Alberto become, I wonder?
Sweet lord!

Fundacion Contador Team jersey, Looks good. Colorful and unique, Contador clearly knows how to design a good jersey. :)
