Come on, Contador is not going to Belgium to ride for Kreuziger.

Maybe if it appears he's not good enough but his first aim is himself for sure.

I don't think so but we'll see I guess

Naaa... I don't think contador is that selfish. Kreuziger is a marked man now that he is the winner of AGR. So no one is going to let him go like what they did in AGR. With contador in the team, not only it gives saxo more changes, but it's a lot more complicated for other team to watch saxo. Because we know, Berti isn't going to soft pedal, and carry bottle for Kreuziger. And Bertie is for sure not going to ride in front of Kreuziger either. His role is now, either co-leader, or secondary leader. Besides, Bertie knows, Kreuziger is in top shape now, and he is not. So he sounded to me that he is fine to play a role as another options. Their DS said that they might change the tactic. Who knows, maybe Bertie will launch a long range attack and forced the other team to chase him. And lastly, Saxo needed the win for morale purposes and WT points. So having others win is actually a benefit for Bertie. And if you think about it, what greater chance of winning if you have to choose one person for the roaster? mic rogers, majka, nicolas roche, or Bertie? I picked Bertie in a heart beat. In form or not inform, he doesn't soft pedal. He is a real racer who makes the race.

It's time saxo to play "team card". And FW + LBL, are a good race to try that (winning as a team). They got someone with great form (kreuziger and nicky), and they still got the great one (AC).

Contador is a champion.

One of the posters here have as his signature of contador "When I race it's 100% me".

He's not going to freaking belgium to ride for Kreuziger, he'll go in the first place for himself like always.

This is a WT race that he can win, not a no name 'flat' race in italy.

It´s not as Dom for Kreuziger the team wants Berto to ride the Ardennes, they just want more options to shoot with, and its not only AC and Kreuziger, Nicki is in top shape, it would be stupid to underestimate his chances as well, remember the tour 2009... and with 3 guys, and with the tactic not to wait to the bottom of the Mur, Saxo are ready to ride aggressively which means we have something to look forward to.
Besides I hope we will see Riis in the car this time, it should be a guarantee for some fireworks.

He wasn't?

He was in a big group where the spanish riders were riden for him. That was the only way Contador could win it.

If the germans didn't ride Contador might had a chance to win it.

But when they were pulled back it was obvious contador couldn't win anymore so he pulled on the peloton.

You do realize that quote doesn't mean "when I race it's 100% for myself" right?

At first instance it is. Once again Contador is not going to travel to Belgium while saying it's not an ideal preparation to ride for somebody.

This is a race he can win and that's his mindset. If he appears to be not good enough he'll ride for someone else. But that's not the reason why he's here.

How you can question that is beyond me, did you follow a different rider all these years?

What happened to writing a concise and structured sentence...

No one said that he is going to win. Being in strong shape means that he could be used tactically. For example going in a break, forcing teams with other tactics to chase.

He is super shape atm, and finished with Gilbert and Valverde in AGR (finished 14). However, FW doesnt dsuit him (but STS says he will have a free role and could be used tactically). LBL will suit him better and he could do a top 10 there.

When Contador said that it is 100% himself, I'm pretty sure he meant that he rides clean, without the aid of substances. As far as I can see it has nothing to do with riding selfishly

Guess you know the man personally and have full insight to all his thoughts :D

I doubt it, we'll have to see the quote in it's context though to be sure.

Anyway it doesn't matter what Contador says. The race is what matters.

When hasn't Contador riden for himself? LBL '10, yea ok but he didn't start the race being a helper for vino which is my point.

A no name in italy this year and last year a race in february is all i can recall.

Contador is not selfish at all, you're missing the point. Under circumstances he'll sacrifice himself for sure.

But he's not going to belgium with that mindset, his first aim is to win like it always has been. You don't need to know the man personally to realise that. It's a trademark of all great champions.

He's never riding something the way Andy for example is doing. He'll always go ftw and if he can't do it he'll help out a teammate, that simple.

If Kreuziger goes at 20 km of the finish, of course contador will play the perfect teammate.

Team Saxo-Tinkoff's Alberto Contador comments:

“I had a hard time finding the rhythm today. I don't know if it's due to fatigue or because I've had a break from racing. On the uphill finish, I didn't have the legs to attack and I decided to go steady up the climb saving my strength for Sunday where I hope to feel better after a few days recovery,” said Alberto after the race.
