He is at the McLaren HQ with Cav and Nibali, something to do with the S-Works Venge which has been designed in collaboration with McLaren.

The positive thing is that now Riis will be able to put alot more time into working with Berto than usual. Also they go back to Berto's formeer succesful build-up schedule. Hopefully it will pay off.

Dunno...in cycling comebacks are rare once a GT champ has started to fade, other than Hinault I can't really think of anyone else pulling that off in recent times and he probably wouldn't have if Fignon hadn't been injured in 1985. Well Fignon came back in 1989 too I guess, so that's two.

LeMond didn't fade he was shot. Fignon didn't fade either he had injury. Big difference.

Alberto has a big road against history to overcome.

Exactly and arguably Hinault wasn't really fading either, his difficult 1983 Vuelta win likely caused by the growing pain in his right knee that forced him to get an operation a few months later.

There you have it, there have been None in recent history that came back after 'the fade' began.

Alberto has a real mountain to climb unless it was just a totally botched season. Which I highly doubt

That is why today, in mid career, he is one of the best GT riders of several generations with a palmares few cyclist will ever achieve and about to do more.

Evans was Never in the class of LeMond, Hinault, Fignon and Alberto. 1 GT on his entire palmares. The 'fade' and coming back from it under discussion is for those that won GTs early and often. The kind or rider that burns out after burning Brightly. Not someone like Evans, hanging around but certainly never a superstar.....

I think the two close defeats in 2007 and 2008 effected Evans psychologically plus his Vuelta and Giro disappointments and he was having team issues in 2009 as well as injury and illness in 2010. 2011 he just put it all together. The performance was overdue, his team was more settled, he was happier and the Schlecks rode a poor race tactically plus others involved in crashes. He was in great form all throughout 2011 and many journalists picked him for the win that year especially after Contador had done the Giro. His fans were more hopeful than convinced he could do it I think. Evans rode a smart race as well and was never far off yellow throughout the race.

I don't remember anyone ever referring to Evans as a superstar but his career was on the wane after 2008. May not have been the best but was always a contender.
