Then he beat the current Fleche Wallone winner in an uphill sprint

Honestly, that would make it even more impressive as he's been one of the best at that particular skill for years. In truth, he was on the front chasing Roche for a good while before Mick came around him in the sprint.

It almost sounded like SeriousSam was saying that because Mick beat Valverde he's an okay sprinter. My only point was that he might be a good sprinter uphill...that suits him more. Today he was were he was not because he's an amazing sprinter but because of tactical smartness and some luck.

Just admit to being surprised and frightened at Froome's famed sprinting abilities. The man can really do it all.

i just p***ed in my *****t out of fear.

Hail Hitler!!!

Seriously though, a Froome fan should be seriously worried. The team doesnt appear to be string enough. They were not in the front. Kiriyenka, Pate, Xandio is a definite worry.

In the case of TCS, except for Majka (due to obv reasons) everyone else looked pretty strong.

and WTF was Froome doing following rogers' wheels? tht was the dumbest move ever made by a gc rider. Sky's team car is still behind tinkof's car. This is where saxo showed smartness. They used Rogers to get the spot.

it looks as if Froome is destined to crash like the way he did in CD, and blame it for losing the jersey.

As happy Froome-fans might be over this sprint (really?) as worried should they be:

A) He used a chaotic sprint to sneak into bonusterritory. Is he not comfortable enough? Tinkoff, who swarmed around AC, didn't seem to care, Alberto least of all.

B) Is it really good vasting energy like this? Froome, inept to read races, where AC and Tinkoff has an upperhand, will exploit this. He'll need everything he can.

C) How strong is Sky? Three members dropped on the last climb and one member keeping an eye on Chris with one k to go. His sprint feels desperate.

Not to say there is eternal sunshine over Sky either. Wtf did Majka today?

are you sure?:(

If you mean the last group with Purito in there, yes, 100% sure it was him.

Which is not strange, given his comments pre-race of not having done any training.

Roman and Alberto are better classicomanos than Porte and Froome.

The profile is perfect to try something. And giving the yellow jersey is at reach for many...

Not sure yet how much of this is due to the team being weak or not. We will know more tomorrow. They may have been taking it a bit more careful today knowing tomorrow is going to be a monster day, made all the harder by being only stage 2.

Agree. I also think Majka should not have been brought to this race. I really don't see him having much to contribute in week 3. I hope to be wrong about this.

I disagree. While I think it's possible Froome panicked and thought he could gain time over a crash, forgetting the 3K rule, it was smart of him to take off and go if he did think he had a chance to put time into his rivals. I don't buy that he was thinking only about the car position, but even so, it wasn't a bad decision by him, and if Alberto had done the same, I'd be praising him for his tactical nous.

I think the original team plans to have Rogers for TCS and G for Sky mix it up for team car spots is much safer than having the GC guys do it themselves, but if Froome's sprint wasn't pre-planned but just a reaction to circumstances, it wasn't a dumb move.

Let's not get carried away.. we should see tomorrow. Froome as a GC guy is lucky that he didn't get brought down with cavendish. I just think a GC guy mixed up with the sprinter on the opening week isn't really a good idea especially if he sprinted for "car position". Duh, don't know what's worse.. :D

Yet again Froome finishing ahead of Contador. Really seemed to put him into trouble at the top of the climb, too. Last year's Contador probably would've lost 20 seconds there.

No way they both put eachother in trouble it was wierd im hugely biast towards Froome but Contador if anything looked to put him in trouble(i do think this stage suits Contador more), but then TJVG got straight away on CF wheel and AC was struggling a little bit. Very interesting stage.

did contador misjudge the climb? He hasn't ridden the parcours like froome. Froome attacked is predictable. Nibali attacked ... now that's an attack, just when everyone is looking around and not expected. I'm a bit superstitious.. seems like most of TDF winner usually win a stage. (not always, but most)

I hope this is not how TS strength actually is. 4 climbs before the end, there's only 2 helpers for contador. Nibali has 4 and froome has 4. Kreuziger is definitely a big loss for TS, he would have been up there at the last climb with contador.
