It's pretty speculative...

Some is... though Valverde is an eyewitness as is Mick Rogers. Straight section of road, pothole, sounds like Alberto's handlebars slip from impact with pothole and down he went.

Am I the only one who thinks that VDB2, a man who's crashed a grand total of 14293 times in the Tour de France over the course of his career, is a total drooler with his comments about Contador? He's mad cause he apparently Contador's head hit VDB2's wheel in one of his crashes
That and if every rider had VDB2's sense of "too risky", cycling would be the most boring sport in the world.

Because he wants results. It doesn't matter if it's Riis fault or not. You don't become a successful business owner by going 'ohh well, we did our best'.

The inability to to reward skill and punish failure and instead to reward luck and punish misfortune is indeed the hallmark of modern management and business leadership. These guys get rich despite such poor thinking. Because they're lucky, most of all.

He most likely won't be able to prepare well for next season. 6 to 12 weeks rest, then he can slowly start training again.

You are the most pessimistic fan of cycling I have ever come across. You are a fan of only rider and when that rider has an accident and is forced to abandon you are the very first to proclaim his career over.

You were emphatic that the cobbles of stage 5 had no place in the TdF as it posed significant danger to " your" man, and that the Tour should just be mountains and TT's.

Ironically, Contador's accident is in the mountains which you seemed to think were safer than the cobbles.

Yet you are the very first person to come here and proclaim that Contador's career is finished.

I can't figure out what exactly you are a fan of.

Eh? Where did I say his career is finished? I just said he will probably not be able to prepare well for next season, which is completely logical if he's out for 12 weeks and can only start training then.

I really think you guys are being needlessly pesimistic, which is understandable after today. Once you see him get back on the bike, you're all going to be gunning for victories again. As you should. Let the doctors have a good look at him, so that knee gets properly healed. He and Riis will figure out the rest. Your guy is a great champ, he'll overcome this obstacle as he has many others. There's no doubt in my mind.

You got some nice spirit going on there.

Not really as pessimistic as disappointed for him and the lads sake. After all, its my biggest disappointment since 1996 but the difference back then was that it got decided on the road. But this is cycling.

I do believe that he will come back, i have my fears after 2012-2013, but i would never doubt him.

IMO he do will come back!! He conquered bigger things than this crash. Alberto loves cycling and he will get back to get his revenge.
Don't forget he once has chosen for the risky operation so he could ride the bike...

Yes it's a very very sad day, but i believe that he can get to his top shape again and we might get the big battle next year.

What a downer party. Seriously, the guy crashed at like 70 km/h with one hand off his handlebar and he's coming out with a clean, neat fracture that should heal easily. He was lucky, so focus on that. Other folks have had career-ending crashes in more favourable circumstances.

Het is misschien raar dat ik het zeg, maar die val was zijn eigen schuld.
Yes, Jurgen, it is not particularly orthodox of you to say that.

Im just shocked it is his own fault, i mean you would not expect it. You would expect him to get taken out if anything. What about JVDB comments. What an idiot. Most boring rider in history of cycling

Yea you're right, i'm still hopefull for the vuelta. Cyclists aren't normal. The injury VDB2 had last year was gonna take normally way longer to recover from but he did it in half the time necessary.

I gained even more respect for Contador doing that ride of 15 km with the broken leg, that's just crazy. I always knew it but once again confirmed, his will to win is even bigger than his talent to climb.

I wouldn't blame VDB2 too much for what he said btw, he just realised that he won't podium this year, this was his chance but he sucks too much.

It will depend on his recovery really, tomorrow he'll go to Madrid for an MRI, he'll know more after that.

I hope Alberto and Froome can help to motivate each other. Sure they are rivals but they now share the same experience, being the best without being allowed to show it after doing so much hard work.

Really, if you hit a hole in the road, what can you do?

Do a perfect 540 frontflip to fakie with a no hander lander, while landing perfectly straight on two wheels, if you had to believe some people:rolleyes:

Riis said Contador might have been eating. Why would you be eating when you are going down at 70km/h on a bumpy road?
No flat today. You have to eat at some point, and a straight road is a better spot than most.
