Taxus ,your already making excuses for Froome if Bertie raced and beat him.
If Bertie races , he will have rode all 3 GT's ,,,,there is no excuse for Froome to lose .

Contador clearly doesn't care about the Vuelta that much (or the Giro, for that matter) as revealed by his actions. I mean, he has never targetted it. In 2008, he couldn't do the Tour, so did the other GTs instead. Same in 2012. 2014 he did it only because he crashed out of the Tour and had to salvage his season.

the vuelta option is always a very tour-dependant thing whatever a big rider could state before the start of the season. if cyclist wins the tour the vuelta often doesn't like a thing which interests him too much later on as the season is already considered succesful, losing the tour on the other hand only decreases the chance of winning the vuelta.

I think he is just settling back into 'life that doesn't revolve 360 degrees around 'the double' and has more time to indulge in this kind of thing. I think he was just having a bit of fun. The emoticons suggested 'mixed feelings, including relief' to me.
As for not caring about the other GTs…well, he's shown up. And given the number of times he's done so compared to all his contemporaries, I think we can safely claim he cares more about them than many of riders of his stature have done during the whole time he's been racing. It's on record that he enjoys them more than the Tour, too.

And when should he have done the Vuelta after doing the Tour? Only realistic possibilities are 2009 and 2010. You can't realistically expect a 24 year old who just won his first Tour out of the blue going very deep to suddenly start chasing a double GT win in that year. 2009 I agree, but I think it was mentally very tiring with the whole LA saga. 2010 maybe too, but I think he was informed of his positive before the Vuelta even started, but i'm not entirely sure.
It's just very rare to go for GC in the Vuelta when you've excelled in the Tour already and don't have to prepare for GC. I respect what Froome's doing, and I think the Vuelta has been somewhat gaining prestige in the last few years with some pretty strong fields since 2012.
I also think it's an example of riders looking for new challenges, Quintana hasn't tried 2 consecutive GC's, Froome hasn't tried winning 2 consecutive GC's. Nibali has something to make up.
Purito and Valverde are really the only 2 riders who care enough about the Vuelta to ride it regardless of shape and achievements earlier in the year.

Alberto has confirmed part of his 2016 schedule: Tirreno, Dauphiné and TDF. Hardly surprising although he could have tried for another Paris-Nice instead I guess.
