Once again, Contador makes a race exciting.

Its old news. The excitement is over, we want wins. When that excitement was accompanied by Wins it was satisfying, now its just excitement, its kind of tasteless.

Bertie has to re-invent himself. The tricks of old don't work any more. The sport has changed with trains like Sky and Vroom machine like froome. Does Bertie have anything new? I am thinking not, so the fans have to move to the department of "Hope", "Perhaps", "maybe"

No. If the only way Contador could win was to have a massive train and bore me to death by sitting behind it, I'd not want it. I like the no guts no glory rider he is. I wish there were more of it - which is why I was delighted by Bardet and Pinot the other day. Its the same thing I liked about Nibs too.

Bertie on form and tactically clever can win the Tour - I firmly believe it. But he probably also needs other teams to be prepared to mix it up. The way Porte raced this Dauphine was rather disappointing, as was the way Movi approached the Tour last year.

So he should totally try to outfroome Froome, instead of racing on his own qualities?

Yes, thats how you win the Tour. W/kg up the final climb, these christmas games don't win you anything in Tour de France. Just gotta survive the Pyrenees and strike.

He was the only who attacked, like always. He's carrying the excitement of every race he's riding it. The burden of being Contador must be hard.

You knew Etixx wasn't gonna attack, every rider in that 20 man group was just waiting for Contador to attack.

I hope Aru will get a godlike shape in the tour. Then Astana and Tinkoff can work together, they'll have to.

Hopefully Movistar won't ride for a podium this year, but they're a cancerous team so i wouldn't count it.

I dunno about the 'sensations' He talked a lot about the sensations before the Tour 2016 and it turned out he was pretty tired from the giro. I'm prepared to believe he was genuine in coming to this race to test himself and perhaps tactics etc., not expecting to do so well in the prologue. OBviously, he's going to want to win, coz it's Bertie we're talking about, but I honestly don't think it was a 'target' in the way that PN or other races were for him.

I'm a lot more optimistic seeing him day by day.Was disappointing earlier in the week, but seems a lot better later on. Wonder why? Plus - just great to see him on the attack.

Racing is so much more fun when riders are willing to go all out for the win.

If we had seen his attacks yesterday instead of him just hanging on for dear life in the last 5km I could maybe feel better about the last 3 stages. Obviously he looked better at the end today because the final climb was much easier.

Just one 'my sensations are good, tomorrow more' would have been nice to hear .

Indeed, I am confident he'll be strong in July. The base is there and he looked better today.

and that TT was a tremendous performance. No mean feat to beat Froome there !!!!.

Contador had a train at Discovery and also at Astana and did not complain about it. Of course his current team is nowhere near as good as those teams which only makes his job harder if he gets dropped. Porte was racing like someone who just returned to racing. Bardet was a nice ride I thought and it will be interesting to see if he can improve in the Tour this year although the TT lets him down. According to what Cummings said after the stage it was quite windy which probably stopped a lot of attacks. Everyone expected Martin to attack at the end and he is good on those types of climbs.

Well right now Feddie seems further off then Contador, getting Thieminated on his most favourable surface

I don't trust in him since tour 2013... "i'm beating all my personal records in the moutains"... i'm not confident, i feel froome didn't go to his limits

It's not just this thread it's nearly all of them. Some just feel the need to pull others down. while I'm not fan of AC I don't hate or root against him. As I don't really follow him I often have questions I'm reluctant to ask here knowing they'll be taken as part of this unfortunate behavior

It's not just this thread it's nearly all of them. Some just feel the need to pull others down. while I'm not fan of AC I don't hate or root against him. As I don't really follow him I often have questions I'm reluctant to ask here knowing they'll be taken as part of this unfortunate behavior

Well I think if you ask your questions in a non confrontational, rational way they would most likely be answered the same way. At least by the some that inhabit the forum . But I do understand your trepidation! You could also PM someone you believe would not be snarky in response.

I don't think many people dislike Contador. I don't see any reason to anyway. But this is the Contador discussion thread. Not the Contador praising thread. I don't see the problem in people criticizing Contador or claiming he won't stand much of a chance against Froome in the Tour. That said, I don't spend that much time in this thread. You know better if someone comes in here just to troll.
