I know tdf puts more pressure on riders (everyone knows). Riders feel differently on such conditions indeed. That's why you should NOT believe them. Basso and Contador said that the tdf climbs are raced faster than in the Giro. That's just not true. Surely they feel that way - and I can't really blame them - but that doesn't make that a fact. Hence bringing such quotes into an argument is completely useless...airstream said:Right, but everything cannot be described with the numbers. Say, pressure, or psychosis in the beginning of the Tour when 30-40 guys are eager to be on the front as if they can win despite on it's for the sprinters. Riders feel differently when they are among stronger rivals. So I believe Basso and Contador because they can evaluate many invisible for a fan's eye things. Contador rode very strongly in 2008, having the only mini crisis on Giau, but he got lucky - LPR thought that he had been eliminated and didn't smash him.

If the argument is "Is the tdf more stressful than the Giro?" then I'd agree with you. But if it is "Is the tdf ridden faster than the Giro?" that's an objective thing. So riders' perception are totally irrelevant.airstream said:A rider's perception is far more important argument than any numbers.

The Hitch said:The Vuelta is very special for me. It is special to have so many people watching in those areas where you cycled when you were young. This year the Vuelta is very open. There are 7 or 8 riders with options and it will be very difficult for me because most will be looking at me.
A lot of the stages are complicated but the key ones are the tt in Galicia the 3 stages after in Asturias, Ancares, Lagos de Covadonga these will be the key stages.
I have been working hard for this. I would like to win for all the people who supported me and for the team.
Ive been training all this time with this jersey, with all the names of people that supported me. It gives me strengh.
Also Saxo have helped me and i really appreciate it.
There are times when you are on the absolute limit and think you will not achieve your objective, but in these moments i remind myself that those next to and in front of me will be hurting the same or worse and in this i find solace.
When not on the bike I try to do to disconnect myself from the race is to relax and calm myself. To distract myself i watch movies on my computer with my roommate.
Sport can teach some qualities. One of the most important is the ability to sacrifice and work hard to achieve your goals.
In Spain we have a golden generation in all sports at the moment, which in all sports are winning and the secret is sacrifice, hard work, looking to other sports, looking to the past especially Indurain. Football has always had a tradition here, other like f1 not so much, but we are lucky with the situation we have in sports at the moment.
I usually finish my season by now but this season i will have a few races. After Vuelta I will do worlds and then some other races and the hollidays i usually take in August will be in November this year.

Fidolix said:Don´t think I would set the possibility that high, though it´s very likely considering the statements from both Kreuziger, Roche and Birdsong.
But they need more pure climbers and workmen alá Tiralongo and Szmyd, and a couple of good TT riders.
Hope we hear more during the Vuelta.

Don't know good Roche can TT, I guess average not sure though, never paid attention to his TT abilities.
Saxo needs one more guy like fuglsang but he's going to OPQS, isn't he? can't blame him but he'll never reach the top IMO. Maybe one day top 5 in vuelta orso but that's his limit I think.
