that's it's very hypoocrite to allow wine sponsors and not beer sponsors or vodka sponsors whatever. it's ridiuclous anyway. alcohol is really bad for your health as is coca cola (light/zero!) that can sponsor all they want.

Trafficrider said:One of the previous incarnations of Rabobank had Buckler (alcohol free lager) as a title sponsor, back when that team was manager by Jan Ras (ca 1990). Then I think it was taken over by Novell, then WordPerfect, before finally becoming Rabo IIRC.
Dr. Maserati said:Dang - you beat me to it!
I remember Sean Kellys KAS team - which was a soft drink maker - sharing sponsorship with Guinness when he raced in Ireland in the 80's!
Barrus said:This might also have to do with the fact that Buckler was run out of the beer market due to the Dutch people and Dutch comedians. And is likely the reason why it is hardly ever attempted to get a light beer in mass market.
Libertine Seguros said:Erdinger Alkoholfrei is doing a pretty good job of self-market in the IBU World Cup though. Then again, that's with a built-in German market and the safety blanket of already having the alcohol-inclusive version.
Plus it makes for a handy way to get around any places having problems with alcohol advertising, since they're advertising the alcohol-free product but still promoting the company that makes the beer.
Barrus said:Yeah, that's a good thing and a good marketing strategy. I only stated why Heineken stopped with Buckler in the Netherlands and that that could well be related to stopping the sponsoring of a team. In the netherlands, as far as I know only one brand of beer is involved in sponsoring anything of cycling and that is Amstel. Again, as Buckler, part of the Heineken company nowadays
El Pistolero said:In Belgium it would easily be possible.
Our football league is called the Jupiler league for example. And foottie is still bigger than cycling in Belgium. How sad it may be.

Sadly, I'm more of a white wine drinker
But beer sponsors should be allowed as well, as drinking moderately isn't bad for your health at all. You're not going to kill brain cells if you drink one pint a day.
Perhaps Inbev should start a Belgian/American cycling team.

Ryo Hazuki said:no it's not. wine drinkers say it is because it's better for bloodflow, well guess what's even better for bloodflow?? walking... and it doesn't induce your body with the poison called alcohol. wow way better thus.

El Pistolero said:You can walk and drink wine. It's already proven countless of times that drinking a glass of red wine is healthy. The grapes have some substance in it that's good for all kinds of things. But you get to little of that substance in your body by eating grapes, wine has a more compact amount of that substance hence it's way easier to drink red wine than to eat a **** load of grapes.
Alcohol isn't poison.
For a long time water was the real poison and beer and wine were the only option available for the masses to actually drink without dropping dead some day. I'm pretty sure drinking water has killed far more people than drinking alcohol
Ryo Hazuki said:if that would be true then you would just have to eat the grapes. it's been disproven a countless times as well that it's healthy. just an urban myth held high by the alcohol and wine industry. like how milk wa ssupposed to be healthy too and countless other bs.
Rip:30 said:wrong. read the literature. it's the ethanol that provides the cardiovascular benefits, not the grapes.

but thanks for your links. though there are many other ways to improve cardiovasucal health without drinking and have all the bad side effects of them. btw I don't want to sound like small time drinking is bad I just heard it too much as an excuse from alcoholics
