ethanol is maybe good in low proportion for your heart and blood but it's bad for everything else so I doubt it. worse even than ethanol is propanol and methanol found in many alcoholic drinks. I'm not sayign it's conserably bad to drink few but believe me I know many people who drink 2 glasses a day and could never stop with it to me you are an alcoholic then. also if you have kids in my opinion one should not drink and smoke anymore unless you don't mind your kids becoming like that. let's just say drinking alcohol is a bad habit somehow broadlay accepted in society which makes it more dangerous than any drugs I say,

Alcoholics don't drink 1 glass a day, but whole bottles.

And I don't know what the substance is called anymore, but it is healthy. You could eat grapes, but you'd have to eat kilos of them.

Drinking one glass a day doesn't have any bad side effects.

Aside from the well documented CV benefits of ethanol, there's other nutritionally/medically relevant compounds in beer and wine.

You might be thinking of resveratrol, which comes from grape skin, and has garnered quite a bit of media interest in the last decade. It's the current target of much research into it's potential benefits (or harms), but my understanding is the jury's still out. Also it's concentration in wine is considerably low, and may or may not be relevant to your health.

More tangible are the high quantities of antioxidants in both wine and beer. Coffee and red wine are the top two sources of dietary antioxidants in the Mediterranean diet apparently.

So drink up mates,
Cheers!

No, sorry we're not talking Uncle JimBob's distillery in Tennessee. No medically significant methanol in any of my beer or wine.

Calling someone who drinks two glasses of wine a day an "alcoholic" is both offensive and just wrong. Clearly you've never known a true alcoholic, where two bottles a day is barely the beginning.

Here's one of my favorite studies on alcohol and health. This comes from 20 years of longitudinal data on 1,824 subjects:

"Controlling only for age and gender, compared to moderate drinkers, abstainers had a more than 2 times increased mortality risk, heavy drinkers had 70% increased risk, and light drinkers had 23% increased risk"

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1530-0277.2010.01286.x/abstract

Oh snap, abstainers aren't living as long as moderate drinkers. One hypothesis (I did not come up with this) is that abstainers are at higher risk for depression associated mortality because of a higher incidence of loneliness. Sounds like a bit of a stretch, but still, lol.

Wait, coffee is good for you too? Awesome.

if that would be true then you would just have to eat the grapes. it's been disproven a countless times as well that it's healthy. just an urban myth held high by the alcohol and wine industry. like how milk wa ssupposed to be healthy too and countless other bs.

Your saying Milk isnt healthy now?

It has this little thing called calcium in it which helps the bones.

And Pistolero is right, one glass a day of wine is healthy. they say it can add a few years onto your life.

But in your defense, experts do warn people not to start drinking for health purposes as alcochol is addictive and so not worth the risk.

Some years ago an italian tv program did a research about the benefit which the red wine would have on heart (cannot remember the name of the substance) and after interviewing many experts, the conclusion was that you had to drink many liters for each day for have a true benefit (which would end to be harming due to the big amount of alchool).

Pro cyclists have to limit their diet on alcoohol to be effective, they drink little and would be a bad commercial! It's like doing a tobbaco commercial with cyclists. Not authenthic...

There's a series of annoying beer commercials in the US with LA in them, but then again it's the US and LA is LA...
