Also for allergies this year (speaking from personal experience), we had a long hard winter here in Europe and spring came late. So everything popped up its pollen all at once.

I'd echo that. Everything was fine until this weekend, I found it gradually harder to breathe until yesterday when I had to bail after just over an hour as I was out of breath even at low endurance level.

Now Freire is obviously not looking for an excuse for a possibly poor performance because he might skip the event completely. And people here suspect ulterior motives for that? Oh yeah, he's Spanish!

And he has a rep as a serious doper! That's why people get suspicious.

I've heard pollen allergy excuses for years from such upstanding members of the cycling community as Tony Rominger. Excuse me if I raise a quizzical eyebrow..

Maybe you should look at the personal messages because I sent you a nice one when you came back to the forum last month after saying you were done. And then when I posted a joke about Contador's allergies you went off on me. Real nice.

I have just found a bit odd that many riders have pulled out of races during the season due to Allergies, Gastoenteritis and Diarrhoea.

When they have pulled out of races, is it a possibility it could be to do with blood doping or PED's at all? Or that they are pulling out because they have stuffed up the time of their doping and don't want to get caught?

I suspect since testing can occur at any time then pulling out of a race isn't a guaranteed way to avoid detection of peds, if that's the concern. If anything pulling out of a race might bring the vampires down on them more often for the same suspicions. I dunno.

I do remember though back during the 1991 TDF the PDM team (who went on to become the Festina team) pulled out of the TDF that year citing 'food poisoning' that later was blamed on injecting some sort of calorie concoction gone off. But most of the rumors was that team members were blasted on a massive concoction of peds and having heart problems etc... Anyone remember that?

California is going through the worst allergy season in years(el nino)
weed, tree, and flower pollen are just killing everyone. and mold spores.
nothing to laugh at when you are suffering, trust me.

Does this mean allergy sufferers will surface during the Td California? Let's watch and listen.

BTW:
having allergies does not make a doper.
changing a race program does not make a doper.
getting gastroenteritis does not make a doper
having a TUE does not make a doper.
having a really good day in a race does not make a doper.
someone intimating that a rider "has a reputation" does not make a doper.
being spanish does not make one a doper.
self proclaimed experts shooting off their mouths to appear "clever" doesn't make someone a doper...

the legal process is clear about what constitutes being a doper.
the court of public opinion does not have the same legal requirements to be made a doper but we should expect some standards from the public, no?

You forgot training / living in Spain during the cycling season: Girona: virtually every American professional. Girona oozes dopers.

Is Mexican the same as Spanish? (no offense to either side) Puk puk puk-awk!

Allergy alert! I have been having trouble since yesterday afternoon, and this morning have been basically unable to breathe through my nose. And Amsterdam isn't all that far away from here. If it's bad here, it can't be much better there.

Yesterday was a nightmare here in the UK too. The oil seed rape has gone crazy. :(

Ooh, the raps, as it is called here! I never thought of that. It is a MAJOR crop here.

They are calling for rain tonight and tomorrow, that should help. Not that I ever believe a word the weathermen say, though.

Have you considered you may be allergic to your cat? Quite common you know.
