here's what Belgian press thinks as well. From today's Het Nieuwsblad

***** Evenepoel
**** Jorgenson, Vauquelin
*** Skjelmose, Lapeira, Gregoire
** del Grosse, Scaroni, Schmid, Laporte
* Wellens, Bilbao, Qimmons, Godon, Aranburu
Cosnefroy should be there with Gregoire in the third row. Also, given what we saw yesterday, this race is too hard for TdG do be near the front. Del Toro maybe deserve some stars, but he is coming from a crash and even before he wasn't looking to hot in Basque.

Evenepoel never impresses in stage races. This race is different. He's the absolute favorite.
I'm not really fussed about Remco's inconsistency, it was more that he kept getting dropped like a stone on any 3km+ climb (consistently).

But anyway, not a problem for tomorrow, more a potential issue for next week (if it is still there).

I don't think he's going to get dropped tomorrow. But I wonder if he can drop riders like Vauquelin or Jorgenson on these hills. His usual tactic is to attack between the hills, but everyone knows that, and since he's the big favourite they won't just let him ride. And then it becomes more difficult.

Rafa Nadal won Barcelona about 1963 times, that doesn't make it an M1000.
The argument used to justify AGR being the 6th monument was that it had a high calibre of riders winning this race.
So following the same logic, I showed all winners of SB. If you look to the last 10 winners, you don't find a race (except the Tour) with better pedigree.
Wout, Ala, Pogacar, MVP, Pidcock, Kwia. These are/were world class riders in their prime. Only Benoot is a lesser rider.

Amstel is the sixth monument because it is sponsored by a beer. No other important race is sponsored by a beer. Therefore, it is the sixth monument
The prestige is directly related to how much of the giant vase of beer you chug on the podium

No sip: Del Toro level 1.1 race

Regular amount: WT level race

Chug half of it: Monument

Chug all of it: Greater than TdF

Last sentence.
History, I can understand. The quality of winners doesn't make sense.
Well skeljmose beat Pog and Remco in Amstel so I don’t think we can call that a bad winner.

Gasparotto and Halgren v Benoot , it’s hardly enough to put Strade above Amstel.

Roubaix has had colbrelli and Van barle in the last ten years, Hart won the giro

For that reason, looking to the quality of winners is a bad argument.

For me AGR is the 6th monument but SB is not that far. It already surpassed GW for example.

Colbrelli 2021 was GOAT level. Dropped Pogacar on a small climb outside Trento. Streets won't forget that season
