ferryman hates all things English.

well his location is scotland so he is quite right to  hats off to him... But the english league isnt amazing outside of the big 4,5 or 6(depends on which teams you count) just like the spanish league isnt so great outside the top 3... for midtable clashes who knows who is the best I guess it comes down to personal preference, it could be the german league is actually the best for watching now great atmosphere in full stadiums and only bayern are ahead of everyone and even then they find a way not to win the league every year...

maybe this thread should be in the cafe :S

Primera football is crap btw. Bundesliga, I think is the best.

Does anyone else follow the cricket or golf? Pretty big winter (southern summer) with Australia touring South Africa and hosting India and England touring the subcontinent.

Another one?! This is great! :D What's your thing? DH? SL?

As for me, I will watch as much Alpine Skiing as I can and in between I will go ski myself. (and some training of course, got to retake lost ground and improve my VO2 max)

Yes, I love cricket. Test cricket, of course, not the pyjama stuff. It's on a par with cycling for me.

So I've got that, alpine skiing, the rugby and some track cycling.

And besides, only 153 days until this...

I prefer Spanish league to English [although I like Serie A the most, even if I know it's not near Premier or La Liga in uality], but I agree that watching Barcelona - Racing, or any of matches between Real or Barca and some of the smaller teams, is boring. I much prefer watchng Espanyol - Bilbao. In general, I much prefer watching those kind of teams, that are not among the strongest. I much prefer all the Bilbaos, Osasunas, Udineses, Palermos of the world to Barcelonas and Chelseas :)
But I have to be honest, football started to bore me in these last 2 years after the World Cup. I still watch it most of the weekends, but nowhere near as much as I used to.
Besides football, I will watch Alpine Skiing. But mostly, I'll try to not watch too much TV and be on internet as much. Hopefully, I'll succeed at that :)

I would say Ted Ligety. He can pull some crazy angles, which makes for an exciting style. Plus, looking at interviews he seems like a nice chap. Among the younger prospects, there's Marcel Hirscher. He can make impressive savings. Unfortunately, that means he also makes a lot of mistakes. So as you may have figured out, speed disciplines are not my favourite, although I'm always ready to see monsieur Cuche in action.:D

On the Ladies, my favourites are Maria Riesch and Anna Fenninger (a star on the rise, I'm looking forward to her next season).

I am more into Slalom and giant slalom than DH. But Kitzbuhel DH is incredible, also I enjoy skiing myself, I go to Les Trois Valees every winter.

4 months winter depression. I for myself will be looking to book a sunshine holiday somewhere in January, just to have something to look forward to.

What are you gonna do in the cold months without racing?

It is summer in the southern hemisphere. Watch cricket, go to the beach, travel but yes I will be a bit empty without cycling.

Not long to Aus Nats...only 84 days.:p

And now the end is here

And so I face the final curtain

My friend, I’ll say it clear

I’ll state my case of which I’m certain

I’ve lived a life that’s full

I’ve travelled each and every highway

And more, much more than this, I did it on a bicycle.

See Lombardy thread;)

You guys have it the best.

Cycling in the summer, free in the winter.

Here I hate it when its a nice day and I have to sit at home and watch the Tour rather than enjoy it.

And you get cycling at night so something to look forward to.

And Melbourne is the best city on earth to live in apparently.

God are you guys lucky;)

Fourcade can be a challenger this year i agree with you on that, but the red army from Norway will use their numbers to defeat him :)

I'm not going to rule out Arnd Peiffer either (he does kind of have the whole weight of German hope on his shoulders) - while Lukas Hofer and Jakov Fak are both young and could make major strides. The Norwegians have the benefit of numbers, but Ole's more likely to pick up a victory in a relay than anything else right now, I'm afraid.

On the women's side of things, I'm hoping Miriam Gößner has learnt that it's called biathlon because you have to do TWO things well, and therefore can hold a rifle the correct way round, and also hoping Domracheva is past her "shooting at the wrong targets from the wrong position" days, because she deserves to win something big soon.
