You guys have it the best.

Cycling in the summer, free in the winter.

Here I hate it when its a nice day and I have to sit at home and watch the Tour rather than enjoy it.

And you get cycling at night so something to look forward to.

And Melbourne is the best city on earth to live in apparently.

God are you guys lucky;)
Best time of the year here in Aus! Cricket, Crits and Surf. The best part is that up here in Brisbane it is nearly full daylight at 430am in the middle of summer, so you can get a 3-5 hour ride in, head to the beach before the wind destroys the surf and still get an afternoon nanna nap in without losing half the day.

Bring it on!

God i hope Neuer etc havent learned how to shoot yet... if they have its going to be boring this year im afraiad

Neuner's shooting has always been good from prone, but her erratic standing shoot means it's usually fun, because even if you want her to win you never feel safe until she's leading after shooting 4.

Gößner, by contrast, can't shoot, period. She needs to improve that to be competitive (note that her only really reliable shooting performances last year were at Östersund where she was on the podium twice).

Competitors like them are fun to follow because even when they're winning you never know if they'll bring it home.

Go out to the nearest club and make myself look like an idiot as per usual and then wake up after four hours sleep and go on a training ride with Daryl Impey, Robbie McEwen etc., like what I did last year.

Oh, and watch all the races that I have recorded and d/l this year but haven't watched yet.

Well - I was going to say that Perth is WAAAAYYYY better than Melbourne, but having read Craig's post, I'm thinking the Gold Coast looks pretty good right about now :D

It is good having cycling in winter, and summer free to enjoy the beautiful weather .... except that all the sports I like are in winter. AFL, Rugby, Cycling .... all winter.

I simply cannot face cricket, and soccer doesnt do it for me at all either .... so I guess I will have to go to the beach :)

Ice hockey time...NHL has started and I'll do everything possible to avoid hockey in Scotland (I'm not bitter...much!) but MIGHT see the odd elite game.

Rugby season as well, maybe catch a few games at Aberdeen GSFP or the Mackie FP guys

Spend time on the Turbo or out on the mountain bike and count down the days to Het Volk, can't bothered with the globalist stuff that Fat Pat and the McQuaid Mafia keep pushing down our throats. Roll on 25th February!

I would say Ted Ligety. He can pull some crazy angles, which makes for an exciting style. Plus, looking at interviews he seems like a nice chap. Among the younger prospects, there's Marcel Hirscher. He can make impressive savings. Unfortunately, that means he also makes a lot of mistakes. So as you may have figured out, speed disciplines are not my favourite, although I'm always ready to see monsieur Cuche in action.:D

On the Ladies, my favourites are Maria Riesch and Anna Fenninger (a star on the rise, I'm looking forward to her next season).

I like your taste! Ligety and Hirscher are some of my favourites too, even though I liked Ted's skiing a bit more a few years ago. Sure, he is winning almost everything these days but still.

I'd prefer this..

Haha, Hirscher, yeah he is crazy. A bit like Vino in his hey-days I think (minus the dope of course). SL is the real thing is you ask me but I have to agree with you and DenisMenchov, seeing Cuche rip it in Kitzbuhel is totally insane! That man is crazy! :D

Reisch and Fenninger are good but I prefer Lindsey Vonn, atleast when is comes to Dowhill and Super-G. Fenninger is cute though, wouldn't mind if she started winning (and not only because she is cute, she has a pleasant style too!). As for a rising star, ever heard about Sara Hector? I am telling you, that's a talent!

I am more into Slalom and giant slalom than DH. But Kitzbuhel DH is incredible, also I enjoy skiing myself, I go to Les Trois Valees every winter.

Les Trois Valees,I have never been there but it looks pretty amazing from the picture I found via google. Would you say that's the best place you ever been to, for skiing?

Yes, you can ski hole day without doing one slope twice, and going from valley to valley reminds me of cycling. So I love it.

I'm doubting between la trois vallées and Tignes, they're both bloody amazing

I have a lot of races on DVD, plus some I've downloaded. Between watching those and riding my bike, I'm not really planning on having an off season. Also, alpine skiing and the various Nordic sports are fun to watch, even though I don't really follow them.

You should come up to Brisbane some time and get belted by Hepburn, Cantwell etc at Murrarie like we all do during the summer....

Ugh...I hate having bright sunshine early in the morning. Shocking for sleep though I guess the sunshine in the morning is good for the cyclists.

Perth is way too hot, especially in the Summer where you guys have had some really long streaks of super high temperatures. I would definetly be happy if we had a milder summer like last year where we had very few 40oC+ days. I have also always struggled with the increased humidity in Gold coast and Brisbane.

I did a crit on Jan 1 in 2009 and my God, it was so humid, no amount of water was enough, and even drinking 7 bottles of water post race wasn't enough. Mat Hayman was there that day (when Rabobank started using Giant instead of Conago) and he didn't go that well.

Sounds brilliant to me.

How big was the difference to the weather in Madrid when you went back to London, Hitch? I would imagine quite a lot.
