I have similar feelings. Definitely Pais Vasco and Tour de Suisse in 2012. I would also avoid the TDF for a change and focus on the weaker Vuelta - if there is a lot of TT then a 37 year old Kloden could be a chance to win it. Possibly ride the Giro too, but only if the parcours is very friendly too him, which is unlikely. The TDF should be as tough to succeed in as ever next year as Contador will focus on it after his perceived failure this year, Evan will have to race it as the defending champion, the Schlecks always seem to go for it even if the course doesn't suit, Basso will give it another go after not being fully fit this year, and Nibali might do so too after 2 seasons of Giro-Vuelta focus and success. All of that would mean a not particularly strong Vuelta field.

On the Schlecks, why don't they separate them? One should do the Giro-Vuelta and the other the TDF. Imagine the anger on these boards if they won all 3?! They might both win a GT if they are not spending half their time wondering where the other one is.

Pais Vasco and a Tour de Suisse win would be amazing for him. True the TDF might be on overload and Vuelta would be good if they decide to go a TT way as well. I doubt the Giro would suit him.

I wonder that to some times. If anything they should try the Giro with its hard MTs. I think that the only team that could have won all 3 GTs would have been Astana in 2008. While the dream team that could win all 3 GTs would have been Armstrong, Ullrich, and Contador. Than for them both to win I think 1 should go for the Giro with the other helping and vice versa in the Vuelta or Tour.

klodi and horner will have the schlecks as domestiques in le tour hopefully...that would be cool.

Even old-man Horner can out ITT the Schlecks, but better if he rode the Veulta or the Giro. Horner will only appear again in a GT if he can win the Cali again.
He should grow a Marco beard to beef up his image though.

I think next year he could finish top 5 if the Shleck plan falls through. If not they can use him to draw out the sting in others. Even then he can still finish top 10.

Horner will drop the Shlecks on a climb when he is their domestique just like with Levi

With the return on 2 long ITT's for the 2012 TDF, it seems appropriate to reminisce over some of Andreas Klodens past performances against the clock. Despite his advancing years, there is only one rider who Klodi can't at all realistically hope to defeat in a mostly time trial dominated grand tour, and that is of course Alberto Contador (who may or may not be suspended next month).

I'm not saying that Kloden is going to win next years TDF, but it is a good parcours for him (given his status as a "dodgy climber") ;)

Kloden may have lost his climbing legs (though he did climb well enough to win the overall at this years Pais Vasco), but certainly not his time trialling ability. In fact in 2011 he was arguably the best performed ITT out of all GC riders (if you discount Martin and Cancerella as contenders).

I think Guerrini was the only one finishing outside top 15. Not to mention Ullrich would have eat them alive.

Shoosh! We don't want to have to take this to The Clinic ;)

Why? I'm not hinting at anything. I just think it was a team with some very competent, efficient riders, who rode with a lot of heart and loving for this sport. (And all this amplified by the fact that they lost their captain.) Otherwise you can not get performance.

Looking ahead to Klodi at the TDF in 2012, I think it's unlikely that he can return to whatever climbing form he might have had this year. That was probably a once off at his age, which I guess would have had him as around the 6-10 best climbers in the field (about his 2009 level). I am guessing at a return to his 2010 TDF level of about 11-15 best climber. But if the TT's dominate the outcome then a high placing is still possible. Top 5 perhaps, though domestique duties might have a say also.

He might still manage a top placing in the Tour. However, I think it's going to be mainly because of the time trials. In the climbing stages, he'll play the role of the domestique for Andy or Frank, once his work's done, he'll mainly just ride out the stage and make sure he doesn't lose too much time. If he does, chances are he'll make up that time in the TT's.

In 2009 he was in the climber TOP 5 and if Bertie hadn't attacked in the Croix de Fer he would have been on the podium. On the other hand in 2010 he was more like TOP 30 among the climbers if memory serves, at best, as he got dropped almost right away on many climbs.

Anyway at this point he can't really claim to being much more than a domestique in a team with the Schlecks and Horner...except if he pulls out a great first ITT and doesn't get dropped in the first mountain stage, a la Froome this year...unlikely though.

The Schlecks will play an important role to help Klöden in the mountains on his way to first Tourwin.

Thank god there a 2 TTs again, which plays into Klöden's cards, and it lets the Schleck disappear into insignificance again.

I think his eventual 6th place in '09 was more to do with ITT's and TTT, so he can't really have been top 5 in the mountains. 8th on Verbier, dropped on Arcalis and Venteoux. His best result was the 6th place on the Queen stage where it could be argued that on that day he was the 4th best climber. Nibali who placed 7th probably did better in the mountains than Klodi.

Yeah but who was doing more work for their team? Klodi or Nibali?
