One word, wheelsucker.
Yeah, he probably skipped a couple of turns, but I saw him come to the front a couple of times as well - nothing too egregious, wasn't like he sat last wheel and never joined the rotation

Who else in that breakaway group had GC aspirations?
Porte

If Alberto Contador did the same thing there would be 10 new AC erotic fanfic threads up by now that condescendingly explain to numbskulls like me why he's the second coming of Jesus because he can win a sprint from a small group thus rounding out his skillset (climbing, tt, and now the best at sprinting ever!)
You're completely wrong. People would be saying the exact same thing.

Talansky was smart yesterday. He did as little as he could get away with, Porte was obviously more concerned with snatching seconds for GC, Talansky gambled that they'd get caught and then finished it off with a great sprint against faster guys on paper.

Sometimes feeling like superman counts against you and you do far too much. Case in point, Signore Malacarne.

don't know what was in malacarne's head yesterday....the strongest by far and he managed to lose

What do you mean? If he wasn't for him, Gorka and Bardet the break would have never stayed away. Easy job for riders like Talansky to just sit there and watch the show and then outsprint everybody.

Talansky had all the interest in pulling since he's also interested in GC (at least I guess). And yet he was nowhere to be seen. I'm not a hater but surely not a fan after yesterday.

That's BS. Again, they had to cooperate to have a chance. Porte and Lopez wouldn't have made it on their own.

Hats off to riders like Malacarne. They might not win a lot, but they're the reason why I follow cycling.

No it's true. If you don't have great legs you are much more careful with the effort you put into a move. When you feel amazing it's so so easy to do too much and screw your chances. Yes, you do have to cooperate to have a chance of staying away. But doing big turns and covering every attack means you are likely to get beaten by someone who's riding a little smarter.

Talansky rode a smart race. He made a contribution to the break's success and came out the winner due to his ability to manage his effort and measure his opposition. I'd say he's a crafty guy. Now if he just sat on the back the entire time and then jumped them all at the end then there'd be grounds to complain.

Quintana was brilliant on one stage in the Vuelta and largely anonymous for most of the rest of it. Amazing the selective memories some people have. Will be fascinating to see how he gets on this week but it's stretching things to say he is favourite ahead of Westra, Van Garderen, Talansky and Porte, all of whom are superior time triallists and have achieved far more than him in meaningful stage races up to this point.

you are talking about yourself it seems. I guess you only saw 1 stage in the final week.

I just saw the rebroadcast of Stage 3 in last 15km. Great stage win for Talansky. Racing at its best. Talansky just increased in value despite the outcome of the GC. Some race smarts there. Liking the fight of that front group. Good stuff, eh.

Why do tactics never factor in?...

I didn't meant it that way. Lets say there is two ends - wheelsucking (Pozzato) and the other end where you don't use your head (Cancellara). Something between this is good - little bit more towards Cance. Of course tactics is part of cycling, but too much of it is not good.

Just to mention, I'm not fan of Cancellara or Vino. Reason why I don't like Cance is that he is one trick pony and almost each time when he uses that "trick", he practically gives victory away. I don't mind if he doesn't win so often because of his racing style. What bothers me is that time after time he pulls his (and others') contender to the line for free.

Talansky did very well today. Stayed cool and collected.
Let see how he defends the jersey on De Lure.

Yes, he's been looking very good. I think he'll manage to hang with the favorites tomorrow. Still a lot of people who are close on GC though, so he and Garmin will have to be very attentive.
