That "superteam" circus Leopard was, has destroyed him, having no discipline.

Well when he was on Leopard he actually got great results that he can only dream of now. But it was a circus indeed and I also think it had a bad influence on him

i guess any chance for gc is gone anyway, they have to try from far out or breakaways. maybe in pyrenees they will reach a good level

I could be wrong, but I think Frank just suffered from poor positioning. Once the split happened ahead of him, there was no way he was going to get back up to the front group at those speeds.

Would you believe the 2010-version of Andy answers the way he did on those questions? He would have had major fire in his belly and blame the crash on everybody but himself.

Some would say he has matured, i'd say he doesnt care.

Some riders are only missed when they are gone.

I thought that Andy's crash happened approximately 27 km's to go. Andy stated (I think) that additional splits occurred after his crash.

His description seemed to subtly blame a rider in front of him for "moving from left to right" and causing him to run into that rider's back wheel. He downplayed it as you quoted. I think he's just mentally fatigued by his seemingly endless bad luck and his inability to get back to the elite level he was prior to his crash. Sean Kelly said it best he either isn't working hard enough to return to his previous level (through laziness) or he is working diligently and will never get back to his previous best.

i think Andy has lost his hunger for being a competitive pro cyclist. I think he's just fulfilling his contract as a pro and going through the motions. If Frank decides to retire, i'm sure Andy won't be far behind.

Disagree, it was superb if you compare with the future Andy, but it was poor for a Tour contender and with his 2009 and 2010 seasons. Despite what results can show the feeling was much worse in 2011.

I remember a podium at LBL but missing a 2 vs 1 against Gilbert just following their wheel. And at the TDF just one epic stage and 20 "average" stages.

At the Tour, the feeling was much worse indeed. But in the Ardennes, Gilbert was riding in a league of his own that year... I'd say he was unbeatable and in LBL Schlecks were still "the best of the rest"

More reason to try something, waiting for the sprint against Gilbert 2011 was the last choice to make.

Very disappointed to let you know that i will not be able to start. My knee is too damaged from the crash. This is a huge blow for me.

What a pity! I hope he recover soon and he start in The Vuelta with the necessary motivation. He must ride Polonia or Burgos. Other way would be unjustified, he must do a good final season.

Sad to see him have to retire, hope he can ride the Vuelta and find some form, doubt it though.

You wonder if he is secretly relieved about crashing out though
