But this is the CN forus, it's against the forum rules to defend Andy even when the attacks are unnecessary.

The guy got paid to attend the race. If he wasn't fit enough to race then don't take the money. How can people still defend him?

I used to be a fan of him..., but I'm not blind.

I have to admit that I don't know all the facts but compared to other sports it is not something unique to take it easy in your comeback after a long break caused by injury. It's bad to do this while you get paid to attend a race but Andy is not the only one in the world who wants to earn money.

#MemorialVDB / en realidad Andy Schleck fue como estrella invitada pagado por la organización para llevar gente a la salida

As a matter of fact Andy Schleck was like an invited star paid by the organization to bring people to the race

Ok- so now he's charging appearance fees too? hmmm - I thought I've heard something similar back in 09

It is quite normal for big stars being hired to ride "non competetive" crits. It s a tradition as old as cycling. They all do it and it is quite acceptable.

When the duck did I become the Andy defender ??? :D

Go Bertie GO... ;)

Alberto also does it :) But this wasn't a non-competitive criterium now was it?

I don't let facts get in the way of an argument. :D

I only thought they got money for crits, not legitimate races.

What is surprising is that all of Sky's advanced training methods and state of the art scientific mumbo jumbo couldn't anticipate that Froome would be fatigued and drop out of contention at the Vuelta. They will argue that he still achieved a 4th place but he was a huge 10 minutes behind the winner.
Froome admitted that the explosive accelerations and the aggressive riding of Contador and the other Spaniards was too much for him. That won't change at the Tour. Of course he will be better prepared and fresh for the battle but
with Contador, the Schleck's, Samu, Valverde w/ Quintana, and a year older and wiser Pinot, it will be a gauntlet of climbers that will be bringing the pain in the mountains. It definitely won't be the cakewalk that was the 2012 Tour.
Just imagine how fatigued he'll be after the 2013 Tour.

A GC condender field can not be weak initially. By far strongest riders make others look weak. But it is not the same thing. We had absolutely the same in the 2011 Giro, but you predictably handle this differently. It will change in the Tour drastically, because after Pena Cabarga and Planche des Belles Filles it's wrong to treat Froome as a non-explosive climber or something. The man is really capable of anything.

10 min is not only about Froome's weakness. That's rather about matched circumstances. Could anyone remind any other GT, when three favorites fired to the same extent that much? I can't. The guy was just baked after Ancares and rode with the only goal - get to Madrid.

Damn, why only Contador fans - but Hitch maybe - don't look up to Team Sky as a huge strength? Do you try to hide from what you are afraid of? ;)

“Please don’t call this my comeback. My real comeback will be next year when I will be in good shape at the start of ‘my’ races. I am motivated!”

It is the case.

Andy is gonna own all the puppies in the Tour! unconditional victory! :)

What about those puppies you keep on mentioning?

This is the only puppy I can think of

Although I don't think it qualifies as a "puppy"

I really don't see how the 2 are comparable. Could you explain please?

He's allowed to surprise me and win the TdF as that would mean we had some great mountain stages.
Or a lot of crashes ;)

cakewalks as u expressed

Okay if we're going to compare the 2, Contador ended up 3-4 minutes back at the Tour after his Giro win and Froome ended up 10 minutes back at the Vuelta after his Tour podium. Is this the comparison that you're making in response to my "cakewalk" reference? This is with the strong Sky support that he had at both and the minimal Saxo support that Contador had at the Tour. Let me say that I think Froome has great potential but he has yet to show what he's capable of when he's at his best against the sports elite grand tour racers when they're at their best with the exception of Nibali. We will have to see what happens come July 2013. I agree that Sky has a formidable stage racing lineup that is unrivaled in the sport.

I'm all for making fun of Andy, but it's pretty obvious he's struggling at the moment, and I for one hope he recovers next season.

Absolutely, and hope he comes back strong next year. At his peak form he is probably the the best pure climber in the peleton. His attendance at 2013 TDF will largely dictate the entertainment value of the race
