No way he will be a factor in the Tour, he should ride the Vuelta as domestique for Tiago Machado

He wont be a GC factor in this years Tour, but if (and thats a big if) he works hard and overcomes his fear maybe he can go for a stange win in an early break on a MTF stage.

However, if all goes well I reckon he could be back on top of thing for 2014 on a new team and with his bro by his side again.

Onward and upward!

“In the end it didn’t work but when you come to the finish and you have done something or tried to execute a plan, it’s a good day. I can see that the shape in my legs is coming back. I felt good. I still miss some power so I knew I couldn’t go with the best at the end, so instead I thought I would try to go from far out and make the race hard. I really enjoyed today even though the weather was so bad. I enjoyed riding my bike.”

what is all this talk about rating andy's form based on his early season results? this is how he get into shape, always has been. He simply doesnt care about **** small racing. usually frank is there and they crash a combined 2.7 times per race.

look at 2010 when he won the tdf:

Schleck hurt his knee after being hit by a car in training in December.

MSR he DNF

He pulled out of the Volta a Catalunya before the second stage. (in late march)

That's true but Andy's definition of small race is a very large one :p

exactly, I don't know why so many people act so concerned when he did not finish race and might be drunk in the hotel. I said many times, this is just old Andy. Nothing more, nothing less. And he probably is on the way to collect another Tour podium or maybe 4th, 5th, since SKY are the news kids on the block.

This year is not the same as 2010 or 2011 though. He had a lost year in 2012, and is working to make a comeback to the top levels. That is why everyone is talking about his form and his finishing races. Because this year isn't about peaking for Ardennes and Tour as usual, this year is about making it back to that level where he was able to contend in the Ardennes and the Tour.

I will wait LBL to make the judgement. So far judging by his current results, I don't see big difference from his old days. People are acting concerned too early.

it's easy to forget about Andy's weird performance curve over the course of a season when you have certain riders peak all year long.

Even on his regular years, Andy had something to show before Liège/Tour:
2009 - 8th on Strade Bianchi
2010 - 13th on Basque Country
2011 - 13th on CI and 11th on Basque Country
So yeah, maybe he'll be back normal but 2012 was a lost year and that must have some effect on a top level athlete.

I really hope he'll get back to his old level. He is gonna need it when the tour comes, and I hope that as many as possible will be able to put some pressure on the Sky train come July.

What's his next race? Is he doing Pais Vasco?

This year he hasnt really shown any strength in any of the races. Thats the key concern. In his regular years he was probably much more in control of his races and used to pace himself. This time it seems he is struggling to do that.

I feel he will be back in form soon although not as a contender at this year's Tour. If he can pull of a pdoium finish at the Tour - that would be phenominal !!

And yes he is racing at the Pais Vasco

While he did finally finish a stage race, keep in mind it's CI not a 7 stage event. He's headed in the right direction and actually finishing CI will certainly provide a psychological boost factoring in also that he actually featured in a break instead of just hanging on for dear life at the rear of the peloton.

It would be nice to see a RSN/Saxo/Moviestar/Katusha front to take the SKY borg train apart, but will probably never happen.

Hopefully Andy can at least get in so good shape that hes probably not a podium contender but more like a dark horse that can and will play the more aggressive part and we will see something ala his epic ride to Galibier, but maybe its just wishful thinking. :p

cannot believe how many people have written this guy off , its common knowledge he shows no interest in any other race other than the TDF , obviously the year out is a concern but if he is fit come july he will be a major force , this centenary route has been constructed for the purist climbers out there .

alberto and andy will have good game plans to break up the skytrain and hit them hard in the alps + pyrenees .

i predict a resurrection !!

actually he has generally had been better (though not spectacular) early season than this year, I think you may have to wait for 2014 to see him challenging again

I agree. Can't see it happening this year no matter how hopeful some people are. Not enough to compete with the best anyway.
