Schleck hardly ever loses significant time in anything other than a ITT. Last year for example, the only stage he lost time to Contador on which wasn't a Time Trial was Verbier, where he lost 40 secs coming in 2nd, largely as he waited too long with his brother. This year he hasn't got the waiting around for his brother to concern him, and he looks physically a stronger climber - kinda expected as he is SO young, he is getting naturally stronger year on year. Apart from that, the only time I remember him truly losing time in a GT he competed for seriously (so not including last years Vuelta where he was doing it for pre_WC prep and pulled out on the 8th stage) (i.e. more than 1 min on ANY of the GC contenders) was that time when he forgot to eat and had no energy. Call me a fool, but I don't expect him to make such an amateurish mistake this year, so ythe only time he should lose is on the ITT. Evans on the other hand *HAS* always lost time in the mountains in pretty much EVERY GT he has done, relying on being a significantly better TTer than the pure climbers (which may not be the case this year due to exhaustion) - and it could be worse this time as he is coming off a highly competitive Giro.

Quite true, but it was very tacky for Andy to dismiss Evans in front of reporters.

A certain rider by the name of Alberto Contador not only wore all three GT jerseys, he finished the races with them.

I think they are referring to it as consecutively - Vuelta, Worlds, Giro and Tour. Which except for Alberto wearing the World Championship jersey in the same sort of period of time, you are spot on.

ANdy is spot on.
Over the past few years we have seen how difficult the giro-tour double is.
This giro was the hardest is so long, insane really.
Evans also went hard out in the ardennes.

come back to reality pal.
EVANS HAS NO CHANCE! unless he is doping?

get real auscycle.

Still sad over the soccer?:D

I am real about the possibility that he could die in the pyrenees due to the giro but I am also think he could have a chance. He thinks he can do it and that is what matters. btw, underestimating his ride yesterday is not fair. check out @davidbombeke's twitter to see all the bruising and cuts. NO wonder he wasn't looking that good.

Most of my "disgust" was that he said it in the media, so to publicly write somebody off like that was arrogant and naive.

Good to see this thread has migrated from a 5 star down to 2.5 star. With luck it will fall further.

Andy was right.

Cadel has tactically had a good tour so far. It will be interesting to see if BMC is up to the task to support him. Unfortunately, we all know cadel is only a tantrum away from being out of yellow. I wonder what the vegas odds are on him hitting a reporter before the end of the tour :)

Give the guy a break! He's Australian!

I mean, they're trained to act like that from birth.

Uh oh... from Van den Broeck's cyclingnews interview today:

Asked what he thought about the form of the race favourites, Van den Broeck said: “Schleck and Contador are super, but I think Evans is not quite as good as them.”

I would have started a new thread, but figured it would fit here... this thread can fit another 190 comments on this new development I'm sure.

So Van den Brock has functional eyes then, that's nice to know. Really there is some legitimate debate on whether Schleck was actually stronger than Contador or if Contador was just worn out from responding to attacks (I'm firmly in the maybe camp), but anyone could see that Evans was at least a bit weaker than Schelck, Contador, Sanchez and perhaps a few others on that day.

No need to start a new Thread. That's it for Evans.

Ok, fair is fair. It appear that Evans was riding with a broken forearm or elbow (Susan confirmed it) that does rather explain his performance. I don't think he could have followed Schleck and Contador in either case, but we'll never know. Sad to have him out of contention this way.

It really looked like Cadel had an examination for a broken arm, on stage 8,
when Dr. Porte examined him during the race after the morning crash. So he might have bluffed, trying to hide his predicament.

Again, my greatest respect towards Evans. He is a real man.

Han har nosser!
