My respect for Evans just went up. No wonder he was white as a sheet.

That had to hurt.

Don't worry ACF - think of the money you've won. ;)

 I told ya so will be the next comment. I am stilll proud of the way he rode. Not a bad effort with a fractured elbow but still a shame.

Can we close this thread now? The road gave a conclusive answer.
How quick the haters are to post - I could have quoted many a poster I guess, but this one stood out.

Cadel rode very well I'd say given his broken arm (I know there'll be doubters on here who will say it's made up) but even though I'm a huge fan, I don't think he's quite in the league of Contador and A Schleck but still had a chance to win GC with his never say die attitude and some good luck, or bad luck for others. Anyone can crash hard at any time (see F Schleck foe example) and a opportunity opens up (IMO Cadel missed his big chance in 2008, once again due in part to a bad crash) but it seems that this year the bad luck is following Cadel too. It's sad I think.

I was tipping a 3rd for my man Cuddles but obviously it's not to be now. I really hope somebody else jumps in to upset the AS/AC duo though - cut that seemingly arrogant Schleck down to size and save me from the "pistol gesture" on the podium from AC.

And as for the Cuddles haters and "I told you so's" - a mea culpa now would save some face for you guys.

So can we categorize you as a Contador & Schleck "hater"?

My post stood out? In that case the forum has become pretty lame and tame. Too boring for me in fact. I think I'll stop posting here.

No I don't hate them, I admire their riding skills and talent and think that Contador seems like a nice guy, I just don't like the pistol thing as I think guns are repulsive things. I never had an opinion on A Schleck before, except for really admiring his team, until he comes out and disses Cadel, that's why I said "seemingly arrogant". I know that really competitive cyclists in all levels of the sport are generally pretty ego orientated but I don't think you should expect a Pro Cyclist of Schleck's status to put other riders down in public. He should have more respect and to think that the peloton actually stopped riding so he could stay in contention.

Really I'm an Aussie cycling fan so I support all the Aussies, I'd just like to see somebody take it up to AC & AS for the GC like Cadel was trying to do - makes for a more interesting TdF don't you think?

I can guess that most of the individuals on this forum recognize and respect the talents of Evans, especially with his seeming change in fortune prompted by what it seems to have been the knowledge that he was escaping from his Lotto "prison". Evans is simply an easy target, one that is hard to resist on this forum for some, with his temperment, falsetto speaking voice and perpetual dark cloud of misfortune that follows him to each and every grand tour that he does.

While I too like a competitive Tour, the realist in me knew that it was a 2 man race for the top step between Contador and A. Schleck. Their level of talent is just above everyone else. Add to that Basso and Evans efforts in the Giro in no way could be seen as giving them an edge in terms of preparing them for the Tour and competing with Contador and A. Schleck.
If they were truly serious about making a game of it they should have skipped the Giro.

I know Evans and BMC were unsure of their Tour invite for awhile (I think it had an effect on Evans committing to doing the Giro but I'm not sure) so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but Basso can't have seriously thought that he would be able to peak twice AND out climb Contador and A. Schleck to the point that he'd have a buffer large enough to make up for his inevitable loss in the ITT to Contador.

I think people here are really going overboard in reading too much into the AS quote. I don't see it as anything resembling a dis--he said that he doesn't think Cadel is a threat for the overall. Everyone here has a strong opinion about who the real GC contenders are--Andy can't have one too? And ever since last year, Schleck has said over and over again that he thinks he can win the Tour, but his #1 competitor is Contador. So he thinks there are two guys who are the GC contenders: himself and Contador. What so many people here seem to think as a slight seems to me to just one racer's consistent opinion about who will win this race. That's all. Nothing to get your chamois all twisted over.

On another topic--I really thought until this morning that Evans had a real shot at taking the over all. If it came down to final TT between him and AC, that would have been a real nail-biter. A really heart-breaking day.

Yeah. I wrote in the race thread at the time that it looked like a fan had beaten Cadel with a stick. Now we know that it felt like that too.

Good ride, bad luck. That's cycling. He'll hopefully be remembered more for his effort than for his placing.

Why do some fans have to hate-on their favorite's rivals?

I simply do not understand this mentality. I like Cadel, he is flawed, but who isnt? But I will not bash on other riders in order to prove how devoted I am to Cadel.

Ignorant? Nice, really nice Timmy. Maybe have a think about that and try again. Like Cadel or not, his ride overnight is deserving of respect

Don't bother with him.

You are a very sad, mentally sick little man. You are the type of person who enjoys pulling people down when they succeed or do well. Your overwhelming hate of Evans crossed the line with that comment. Show some class and respect which you obviously have very little of. I feel sorry for how little of a person you really are. Laughing and saying it is brilliant at someones failure is a very low thing to say. I would like to see you ride 80km on a flat rode with a fractured elbow. Then we will see who is laughing. I would of been swamped by you and some of the dutch posters on this thread if I made that type of comment about the dutch losing in the soccer.

Exactly.

Objectively speaking, after the show in the mountains, everyone saw that this Tour is a two men business.
Many said and believed that long before the tour started.
I still confirm my position; Andy was unpolite to talk like that about another contender.
Unpolite, but probably correct.
I'm sorry for Evans misfortune, he didn't deserve it.
The only one that could follow AC and AS could be Basso imho, but indeed we have confirmation that you can't peak in both Giro and Tour.
Even if he could follow he would lose in TT anyway, so that's it.

Yeah looked like he was about to throw up!

It's funny though how however Evan's does badly he comes up with some "flu" or "fractured elbow" ...

Nah, just kidding :D Tough luck man, hope to see you back soon.

No, we have proof that the level in the Tour is higher than the Giro. I don't think Basso's much worse, there's just a lot of riders who can hold his wheel, or do better than him. Put an on-form Schleck or Contador in the Giro, and it's bye-bye Basso.

When was the last time you congratulated a Spaniard on a win, and didn't inject doping accusations or collusion allegations into the conversation regardless of it not being the Clinic? Or is that not pulling people down when they succeed or do well, because they happened to be Spanish?

Why do you think they say those things?

Do you think they get people riled up with arrogant statements? Do they get more press with arrogant statements? Does more press equate to more money?

Let me answer that - Mohammad Ali. A man that worked with Howard Cosell to make a small fortune off the stupidity of the press.

Anyway, talk about stabbing someone is a little over the top for me.

I admire most of these guys for what they can do. I do not like the persona that many of them portray.

What I want to say to you is so far beyond your level of understanding and intelligence that I will not bother.

Suffice to say that the only other person who is involved in posting as much insulting, worthless, hypocritical garbage is banned on a regular basis.

Evans battled hard but ultimately came up short against superior opposition. Get over it.

Right now I am not so much intrigued by the substance of what Schleck says as I am by the fact that during television interviews he can't look at the interviewer for more than three seconds and instead looks all over the place like he's sitting in a duck blind scanning the skies for his next target. Does the guy have Aspergers or something?

Your question makes no sense, ACF has never congratulated a Spaniard on a win.
