“We sent an inquiry to the UCI, but it turned out that we had to pay seven million euros to a private company for the license for the Tour of Russia,”
“This is also a question I intend to discuss with the UCI. Why should I pay seven million? We thought the organization of the race was included in this price, but we were wrong.”

peterst6906 said:Yes, though I can see the Russians being ****ed off about paying a foreign company for the rights to the tour of their own country.
Business practices inside Russia are one thing, but being outplayed by a foreign entity wouldn't sit well. The Russians are very proud and most of the population would take the view that in order to hold the Tour of Russia, it is Russia that should be paid by the UCI, not the other way around.
More evidence of UCI corrupt practices in this.
Benotti69 said:When you want the UCI to guarantee the top teams, you gotta pay.
DirtyWorks said:I'd actually be okay if the money went into the UCI in exchange for a slot and points on the elite calendar, but it's not. Or, at least that's what Makarov is suggesting.
Keep in mind he's got a senior position inside the UCI as the President(?) of the European Federations. He's also sponsoring the European federations.
He might be an interesting source for more controversy.

Nothing like a bit of racial stereotyping, eh? I imagine many an Irishman cringes every time their compatriot opens his mouth!D-Queued said:I have been looking for this quote for some time due to its utter absurdity.
“There is a clash going on at the moment between two cultures, the Anglo-Saxon and what I might call the mafia Western European culture…The Western European Culture is a culture that has to some extent – I won’t say condones doping and cheating practices – but because of their culture in life, because of the way they deal with everything else in life they accept certain practices…”
“The Anglo-Saxon [approach], which would be here [the Netherlands], it would be Germany, the United Kingdom, Denmark – is the complete opposite…it is very important that at the end of the day the Anglo-Saxon approach wins out – because if it doesn’t, then the sport is doomed.”
If they ever start that UCI enquiry again, this should be the first statement reviewed. Followed, of course, by evidence from Telekom, Riis, etc.
Dave.

Lotsa hate for some of the biggest cycling nations out there. Nice stance for the head of an international federation.
