"another interesting piece I found on the UCI and president Pat McQuaid " Thread

The actual day-to-day procedural rules of the Management Committee are not, then, defined in the UCI's published constitution and allow the Management Committee to write its own rules and regulations, which are not published.

Pretty much all you need to know is quoted above. Again, I can't emphasize enough how undemocratic the entire organization really is. It's Kremlinology!

Plant is another perennial cycling insider with a long history of supporting Wiesel's takeover and subsequent conversion to a powerless shell run by Thom's USACDF.

More kudos for the Clinic 12.

It is a lot easier to do the right thing when the masses got there before you. In this case, presenting a non-confidence motion is obviously not coming ahead of any grass-roots support.

Did anyone else see Pat's latest comedy show on RTE Prime Time tonight?

Just unbelievable. The neck of the man.

He said that we didn't know Lance's positive in 99 was linked with a backdated prescription until after his interview with Oprah. WTF? Again blamed WADA and USADA over the Independent Commission. Then said the 6 positives from the samples in 99 which were later tested for research shouldn't have been re-tested at all.

First of all they did interviews with Tygart, Jaksche, Anto Moran, Conor McGrane, Shane Stokes and finished off with a one on one with McQuaid. Overall RTE did a great job in painting the overall picture ahead of the Cycling Ireland EGM.

I saw that programme earlier, loved the bit "the UCI always follow the rules". Yet the interviewer didn't ask why he broke the UCI's own rule on the "must be back in the testing pool for 6 months before coming back to competition" for a certain Mr Armstrong !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Claire mainly presents on a more political theme and does the majority of her interviews along those lines. She's more at home there but in the circumstances I think she did as well as expected. I wouldn't be too hard on her.

I'm not surprised by Roche's support. The relationship between him and McQuaid goes back a long way and presently Nico's agent is Andrew McQuaid. I don't think anyone expected anything different.

I don't know if it's geo-restricted or not but the Prime Time programme is now up on RTE Player. Starts 16 mins 25 secs in.

thanx gooner. the link works worldwide and anyone interested in the uci/mcquaid election MUST watch.

the coverage, as you said, starts at about 16:25 and goes on for about 20 minutes...several people were interviewed on camera, all critical of the uci handling the armstrong doping..., including
jaksche , travis, conor mcgrane (the current chief medic of the irish cycling fed), shane stokes (the velonation EIC -imho, the best current investigative journalist in cycling !!), anto moran (ex prez of cycling ireland), geof liffey, (current prez) etc

it will be a mirracle, if the mcquaid liar will overcome the odds building against him...

in case he does, i will chalk it down to the cycling's pervert past and present NEVER to become it's proper future

I am probably repeating myself, but the people that will vote is small and they aren't required (that I know) to represent the intentions of a broader group. Some plain old quid pro quo will get Pat his nomination.

I don't want it to go that way, but that's how it works.

There's a load of clubs voting. List here and the number of votes each club has.

Your point is a fair one. I know some clubs have put it to it's members but whether they have all done this across the board before the EGM, I don't know.

Some clubs have announced already they will be voting against McQuaid.

Blanch Wheelies CC ‏@BlanchWheelies 5h
After last nights club meeting it was unanimously agreed not to support the nomination of Pat McQuaid. 3 Blanchies will vote no at the EGM.

No - as pointed out above there is a system in place.

Each club is allowed a certain amount of delegates on the day - it is up to each club how they intend to vote. The bigger clubs appear to have called EGMs to decide. Obviously there will be smaller clubs that may not.
There is some apathy around this, as is always the case with authorities and/or politics - but the apathetic don't vote.

There are certainly some Irish clubs still loyal to McQ, but it apppears to be a minority.....however....

It will be a miracle if he really does get sacked. Don't underestimate how corrupt the system is and how stacked in favor of those in power it is.
This is certainly true.
Even if he misses the nomination in Ireland he will still try and proceed elsewhere. But todays news that the management Committee were even considering a 'no confidence' query shows that he may be put out with the trash.

Do you know what grinds my gears? Internet hooligans. They cruise the dark alleyways of the information superhighway with their fancy pants and marzipan candies, tossing bombs at old white blokes like me who were smarmy enough to get their positions given to them by even older whlte blokes. So what if we pocket the occasional wad of under the table cash or hand out choice assignments in exchange for support and favors? That is the way the world is. That is the way it should be. Otherwise society's productivity will go straight down the crapper as everyone spends their time passing around hilarious pictures of cats. Do you want that? Do you want the jet pilot responsible for your safety watching a Youtube video of a kitten climbing a curtain instead of watching the instruments? Well, that is what the Internet hooligans want, and that is what really grinds my gears.

Vote McQuaid for a UCI future without cats.

Thank you for your support.

What was noteworthy in the Roche endorsement was he could not cite one accomplishment or even give a practical example.
It seems Pat attended and even presided over meeting - hurrah.

Pat might wheel out Sean Kelly next - "By my calculations Pat should have a turd term".
