That will be the last time McQuaid talks to newstalk.

Gilroy did do his homework. I like also how newstalk analyse the interview straight after and correct mistakes they may have made or bring up stuff that may have been missed in the interview.

They pointed out after the interview how McQuaid said it was the rules but was able to break them for Armstrong.

Before Eoin McDevitt and the lads left they were trying to get him on for sometime but he refused all their requests during the Lance and USADA affair. He only went on to Pat Kenny on RTE radio to discuss it. They started a campaign afterwards on their Off the Ball facebook page to try and get him on in the end. McDevitt tore strips off him in previous interviews when Lance returned and at the time of Landis coming clean. He obviously knew they would see through his BS. He probably thought he would get an easier ride off Ger. How wrong was he!

Yes, McDevitt was very good.

Still telling lies.

guy is pathetic.

McQuaid is a political relations nightmare, but he's not lying.

Ger Gilroy is basically blaming the President of the UCI for not personally catching LA. Lance got caught by USADA after a lot of hard work by Tygart and Novitsky before him And a busload of money, just as he should have been.

Think of how many people, how many years and how much money it actually took to catch LA... USADA has a much bigger bank account than UCI.

It is Ridiculous to think that Postal is McQuaid's fault. Should Cameron be out catching bank robbers? Should Obama be handing out parking and speeding tickets?

Asking about McQuaid's salary? That was Pathetic. Is Cookson proposing to work for free?

McQuaid certainly needs a handler, but

Gilroy is a Git.

Gilroy should've asked McQuaid about his IOC ban for riding in SA and why UCI gave Roche a job, a guy who to this day denies doping even though an Italian court declared his epo use.

What rule did Pat McQuaid actually break for Armstrong?

If you kicked every ex-doper/cheater out of the sport of cycling, there would only be about 3 people left.

He lied about not being able to break rules. He broke the rules to allow Armstrong race Tour Down Under. Lie.

No he didn't. McQuaid has stated that Armstrong was not riding on his watch. He was. McQuaid broke the rules to allow him race Tour Down Under. This enabled Armstrong to be able to ride TdF.

He also said that Armstrong did not showing any anomlies in Bloodpassport. Lie. Ashenden and another has said this is not true. Ashenden resigned over how UCI were not showing BP results to experts.

He was caught in 1999 at the TdF. UCI decided to accept money and let him win.

What was McQauid doing when Hein was allowing USPS?

Youa re trolling. Cookson has stated he will provide full tranparency about what people in UCI are paid.

Spectacular interview. Very impressive work by Ger Gilroy

It took the collaboration of how many governments, hundreds of people, millions of dollars, the eventual confessions of friends and teammates and almost a decade to for USADA to bust Armstrong.

Gilroy spends a third of the show berating Pat for not catching Armstrong singlehandedly and you call that impressive work?

Makarov, Cookson, and now Plant will turn Pro Cycling into World Wide Wrestling on bikes.

You will deserve that.

No, Gilroy didn't berate McQ for not catching LA singlehandedly - he berated McQuaid for his continued lies and inconsistencies, proper order too.

McQ acknowledges that they had suspicions on LA - yet they still take money from him and then waive their own rules to let him collect a large fee.

OK. You win; Katusha is still a Pro team, Contador raced and earned millions after his positive, Sky is glowing like nuclear fuel rods, DiLuca was turned in by the Guardia in retaliation for breaking Omerta and almost, if not everybody is still doping. But, does the TDU have any blame?

No he didn't. McQuaid has stated that Armstrong was not riding on his watch. He was. McQuaid broke the rules to allow him race Tour Down Under. This enabled Armstrong to be able to ride TdF.

I'm not going to listen again, but I believe he said Armstrong was doping under Hein Verbruggen. We all know what we think is the truth now, but he's being accurate.

He also said that Armstrong did not showing any anomlies in Bloodpassport. Lie. Ashenden and another has said this is not true. Ashenden resigned over how UCI were not showing BP results to experts.

Bio Passport was still new with no teeth and we know now not the be all end all, But...

Ashenden, as bright and as ethical as he probably is, quits everything.

He was caught in 1999 at the TdF. UCI decided to accept money and let him win.

This is, for now, libel.

What was McQauid doing when Hein was allowing USPS?

He was President of the UCI Road Commission. What Cookson is now.

Youa re trolling. Cookson has stated he will provide full tranparency about what people in UCI are paid.

Will he provide full transparency regarding who is funding his campaign, who paid for the mysterious dossier, how Sky has turned a casual amateur biker into the greatest cyclist ever, will he explain how Katusha, with the worst doping record and a 30m euro budget is still aloud to compete?

I didn't think so.

McQuaid needs to be never let near any kind of sport ever again.

Proof of your trolling.

As prolific a forum poster that you are, you don't even know the meaning of the term trolling.

I apologize for replying to a post that you put up because I disagreed with your opinion. We need not interact ever again.

But consider this: Pro Cycling is working harder than any other sport on planet earth to address the issue of doping. Cycling as a pastime and as a spectator sport is more popular globally than ever. It has come from a time when athletes were dying in their sleep and (more) honest athletes were shunned out of the peloton to a place where at least a few teams are probably clean and every now and then one of them wins a race (Vansummeren).

These are facts. These facts happened on Pat McQuaid's watch.

Hardly. He tested positive for Corticosteroids in the 1999 Tour, the prologue IIRC. But by presenting a backdated TUE he managed to evade censure. The UCI allowed this despite it being against the rules. A couple of years later he again fails a test in the TdS and then makes a sizeable donation to the UCI. Looks like a payoff to me.

Nobody is more disgusted with LA, nobody is more disappointed with cheating than I am.

But, looks like is a lot different than proven fact described by the rules.

A much bigger problem with sport is the rules and the conflict between the UCI, IOC, WADA, the separate Country Federations and Associations.

The UCI should tell everyone to take a hike and then make one simple doping rule: No drugs, no genetic manipulation; nothing but natural food and liquids, no needles ever.

If you've got a headache, apply for a TUE.

On McQuaids watch they accepted payment from a guy they knew was doping. On McQuaids watch they tried to frustrate the USADA in sanctioning Armstrong.

The fact that cycling is booming as a recreation activity in certain countries has zero to do with the UCI or McQ.
But why is it that a sport that is doing so well cannot get just 20 sponsors to invest approx $10m in to a global sport even though they are guaranteed a return from publicity?

The UCI is constantly wishing it had more money. Not too long ago, relatively speaking, I think they were broke. Taking the money was stupid, but they didn't hide the fact or line their own pockets.

They didn't try to frustrate, as in hinder, USADA's investigation, just control the situation. Under Verbruggen and to a lesser extent under McQuaid, the UCI has excessively tried to control the information. They have been overly paranoid about protecting the image of the sport.

But then, in perspective, look at any other Pro sport and what they're covering up of looking the other way. Example: Football racism everywhere, but especially Italy. Their solution? Add one official to catch a racist and then fine the club. Underwhelming wow...

Why is some of the sport suffering?

Why does Katusha have a 50+m Euro annual budget? Why is Sky the sole major sponsor of the best funded team on the planet?

Same answer: Cyclists dope, doping is lucrative.

I'd bet all the resources that were consumed in the process could have been halved if the UCI under McQuaid's orders had cooperated rather than hindered at every turn. The amount of UCI time, effort, and resources that could have actually gone back into the developing sport instead of being directed toward protecting Armstrong and Co. is staggering. Having been at the helm when all these events were taking place, McQuaid is (along with others) personally responsible.

Ever been to Aigle?
For an organisation that was 'relatively speaking' broke, they have a nice HQ.

And when you say they didn't hide the fact - well, under McQuaids watch, they have never released documentation to show exactly when and how much was 'donated'.

Thats exactly what they did when they attempted to say they has jurisdiction. It was a lie.

Just to be clear - Katusha have a 50m annual budget, and Sky are the best funded, which means they invest +50m?
No. But again, strawman noted.

Really?

Pat never told Matt White not to cooperate? They never helped lance launch absurd, failed, legal actions? They never wrote pages of insane letters that challenged USADA's obvious jurisdiction?

What is that smell?

You are right. LA, Hein and Pat are the problems.

Everything is going to be perfect when Froome wins the Tour, Rodriguez wins the Vuelta and Cookson wins the Presidency. The only sad part is that there will be no need for the Clinic, your work having been done.
