McQuaid says he was a "Victim of lance Armstrong"

Oh Pat, so silly. Did he forget how he did everything possible to obstruct the USADA case? Pat is not a victim, he is a co-conspirator.

Agreed.

McQuaid's job was to catch the cheats. Armstrong was a brazen cheat that every insider (including McQuaid) knew was doping. McQuaid defended Armstrong, until Armstrong confessed. It took an outside agency to "catch" Armstrong.

Not only did McQuaid NOT do his job in catching obvious cheaters like Armstrong, he (according to Contador) tries to cover up Contador's positive test.

Somehow the riders were getting tipped off as to when the "Unannounced" testing was coming. Backdating TUE's, taking "donations" for equipment,... that McQuaid, and Verbruggen orchestrated makes them MORE guilty than Armstrong. McQuaid was in a virtual dictatorial position of authority when all of this happened.

It's called CORRUPTION Pat. You are no damned "victim".

Pat is definitely Armstrong's victim. He was beloved by the federations. You might call him corrupt, but whatever he was, the federations liked it! His defeat by Cookson was no landslide; he only got tossed because he couldn't survive the negative PR that Lance and USADA created.

It is difficult for me to call McQuaid corrupt when he perfectly embodied the core values of the UCI and its member federations.

btw, judging from that telegraaf interview, pat and hein don't seem to be best friends anymore.

in that telegraaf interview, Pat is putting all responsibility on Hein's and Lance's plate.
Not a single sign of some self reflection.
for a guy of pat's age, to not be able to take ANY sort of responsibility for what happened under his watch, that's really poor, both from a professional and a personality point of view.

Pat chained himself to Lance and went down with the ship. :) As far as I can tell, Hein was in complete agreement with Pat's strategy. Sucks for them both.

Pat's poor PR was a good thing. It showed us all what a joke the UCI is!

Hope Cookson's other relatives get good cycling jobs!

The recommendations purely seem to apply to the processes around anti-doping and with relatively technical improvements, not with the overall effectiveness of anti-doping.
IMO The only really substantive recommendation said

Yep, my read too. These are recommendations to administrative policies to make anti-doping efforts more efficient and do not deal with the problems in testing per se. It is logical that the UCI would be involved in its own administrative processes. Nothing to mock here boys and girls. You should be able to get off the couch now Wiggo.
