neineinei,

This article claims those were "suggestions" not laws. 7000 pages of suggestions. How many people does it take to write 7000 pages?

Concerns over the cost of hosting the Games, and the record $51 billion associated with the Sochi 2014 Games, reportedly played a key part in Norway's rejection of Oslo's bid.

Some forces inside the IOC went from "eff you!!" to finding fault with their org. It will be very interested to see which authoritarian regime gets the bid and their support for "the environment," "human rights," "worker rights" and the many other issues Russia paid great care.

The reason Norway rejected it is because the politicians there are closer to their people who, like us, know that IOC officials are mainly bent, participating athletes as likely to be on drugs as not and the whole caboodle an expensive exercise in vanity. So, as things stand, what's the point?

IOC can't find a Democracy to host the 2022 Olympic games. They are left with oil rich Kazakhs or manufacturer to the world China. Both countries are generally described as authoritarian regimes.

Norway/Oslo apparently estimated the budge for a winter games to be 5.4 billion kroner. And we know those numbers are always much smaller than the final costs.

IOC responds by saying their vague contribution of about 15% of that should be more than sufficient. Then blaming the matter on the Norwegians for not showing up for the IOC to make their case why spending 6+ billion kroner would be a great deal.

http://www.gamesbids.com/eng/winter_olympic_bids/2022_olympic_bid/1216136984.html

China and Kazhakstan are the only host countries left and the IOC does not appear to get the clue the West in general understands the lack of value or credibility in the IOC and their sports.

France would be one country more than willing to throw billions of euros down the olympic toilet to host 2 weeks of political/business spectacle and line the pockets of numerous sports burocrats and politicians.

After all, the olympics are the perfect remedy for a country already on the brink of bankrupcy - just ask the Greeks how that turned out.

It looks like ZiL lanes became a mandatory requirement after London. No wonder sensible people aren't interested.

Popular sentiment for hosting an Olympic games is way, way down for some in France. A Le Figaro survey shows only 20% are interested in France hosting a games.

http://www.gamesbids.com/eng/olympic_bids/1216137004.html

It doesn't sound like Paris will ever get a Summer Games: http://www.gamesbids.com/eng/olympic_bids/future_bids_2016/1216137001.html

USOC lobbying efforts: https://www.opensecrets.org/lobby/clientissues.php?id=D000058083&year=2013

Apparently, they are trying to get the border administrators (DHS) to give special access for IOC members. More ZiL lanes!

Gotta say, ZiL lines, very appealing stuff.

I think it was the Atlanta Games, my friend,
that showed their necessity, if you recall.

here's the first benchmark of a new Bach project.

http://www.olympic.org/Documents/Ol...pic_Agenda_2020-20-20_Recommendations-ENG.pdf

Recommendation #15 is something...

"The IOC's ultimate goal is to protect clean athletes"

Recommendation #16, Bach had USD $20m lying around.
$10m to go to "new scientific approach to anti-doping"

The old one works too well, it caught important athletes.

Some of these big ideas are going to change cycling, so be on the lookout. Lots of these ideas are big money makers if executed halfway well.

Recommendation 15
Change the philosophy to protecting clean athletes

???

I guess I thought that was the original reason for creation of WADA, what was the old philosophy then?

In marketing parlance, it makes a lot of sense.

cf

1. Stop doping
2. Protect clean athletes

#2 is much more marketable and open ended.

A rambling, sometimes incoherent assessment of the Boston choice for Summer Games 2024.

http://www.3wiresports.com/2015/01/12/wink-nod-op-ed-many-questions/

According to the author, L.A. had the better bid, but Boston got chosen? There is already public resistance to the games already and they haven't even gotten to spend the real graft at the IOC.

Boston bought a $25 M insurance policy against dropping out of the bid. Good money for the IOC!

Strange stuff.

An older article: http://www.boston.com/sports/column...sed_doors_boston_has_nearly_secured_a_us.html

Head cheerleader for the project is a Boston construction magnate.
http://www.2024boston.org/about A stadium or three would be very lucrative projects.

I'm not sure how they'll implement ZiL lanes in Boston of all places.

Another story about Catlins lab at the 2002 SLC games.

Finnish anti doping lawyer Olli Rauste, who was part of the CAS ad hoc tribunal at the SLC games, says that at a tour of the lab Catlin said that they had had to pour out some samples from hockey players because they weren't according to protocol.

A WADA representative at the games has never heard of it, it wasn't reported to them by Catlin.

Good find.
Rauste also says that the IOC wants to keep their relationship with NHL in order so NHL players can continue to play in the WOG.

Bäckström's + test at Sochi was explained that there was some problems with the B-sample and buried under the carpet, so he kept his silver medal, despite him admitting he took pseudoephedrine two hours before matches.

Money & corruption rules.

Fun stuff at an organization somehow related to the IOC called SportAccord that seems to be like a "minor leagues" of the IOC games.

New head of SportAccord, who took Verbruggen's place, calls out the IOC/Bach.
Abrahamson's writing has a heavy bias to protect the IOC, but usually adds some color.

http://www.3wiresports.com/2015/04/20/the-start-of-an-olympic-cold-war/

http://www.3wiresports.com/2015/04/23/marius-vizer-i-dont-give-up/

Diack and his buddies shunning Vizer.

The IOC's attempt to find a Democratic host failed in Boston. If a Los Angeles bid is warmed-up, then the taxpayer's obligations will be huge and probably create enough resistance.

I stumbled across this:

Le Monde reveals that a company linked to a wealthy Brazilian businessman paid, on September 29, 2009, three days before the election of the host city, 1.5 million dollars to the son of Lamine Diack, then president of The International Athletics Federation (IAAF), the largest Olympic federation, and a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

That's good money! I want a job where I get 1.5 million "on the side."
