Even if Pegasus get their application submitted I doubt it would be accepted; at present I can see

BMC RACING TEAM
EUSKALTEL – EUSKADI
GEOX – TMC
HTC – HIGHROAD
LIQUIGAS – CANNONDALE
LUXEMBOURG PRO CYCLING PROJECT
TELEFONICA MOVISTAR

definatly getting a licence and then the final place between

COFIDIS
VACANSOLEIL – DCM PROCYCLING TEAM
FDJ

although I would love to see Vacensoleil get a ProTeam licence I suspect they will be at the bottom of the pile.

I somehow have a hard time seeing france lose yet another PT spot. They lost two last year already so losing one more would have almost purged them from the PT. Then again who knows id that's even a considerment. There will with some likelyhood be 4 US registered PT teams out of 18 next year so who knows if they really care about what nation a team is registered in.

will be the 8. If astana fix their current situation, I suspect it will be between bmc, euskaltel, fdj and luxembourg.

considering their current signings (at the moment McEwen still seems to be the biggest signing....) + debut season in europe, I would be pretty surprised to say the least.

I like to see debut teams ride pro-cont. first.

His " we are going to go to the tour presentation to talk to people, make contacts etc" makes me think he is either a) very niave b) completely full of hot air, or c) has already made a sizeable donation to the UCI and is playing dumb.

If you want to get invited to the 2011 tour you need to make contacts a long time before october 2010. I appreciate the guys done things the right way, domestic, then usa etc, but I think hes been in the garden smoking with the faeries

Would be a joke if Pegasus got in. Especially considering whichever teams would miss out.

I agree (I mean I would like to see a australian team, but this wouldn't b fair.). But I wouldn't be surprised considering whom runs cycling.

I don't think it'd be completely unfair. So far there's been nothing wrong done with the PT bid. Even seems to be more work done behind the scenes than usual. Only thing is we'll need at least 2 or 3 top top riders signed in the next paces to actually have a quality team. That said, I think some of the FlyV riders are more than compenant. Kemps used to be at Astana remember. Still wouldn't mind them in EuroCont next season though, I hope that's their plan b and they won't give up the ghost if their's no PT license.

It's not fair because..
1. They are unproven in europe.
2. Their squad is looking thin compared to other teams vying for the spots. An old McEwen, Tuft and Hunter certainly doesn't warrant PT status.

@Hitch

"reason i rated Cofidis so highly is because they are an old team. Been around a while."

I can't see this being an issue, it certainly didn't stop them giving cofidos an abrupt boot out of the PT to make room for the cash machines sky and shack.

Oh, can anyone quote what CW said from the video linked?

It goes for over 5 minutes but here are some of his points.

1. "I think we are there" in response to question about being in the ProTour.
2. Application has 11 Australians and 11 internationals in the squad
3. Will build roster more
4. Based in Ghent with 30 staff signed
5. Committed to be in Europe as a Procontinental team if no ProTour license.

The stuff about Tour de France has already been commented on.

We got a great pitch, there is a number of reasons we should be there. Australia are ranked 4th in the world and there should be an australian team in the pro tour.

We think we have a great chance. We think our bid is really strong. There are 12 teams fighting for 8 licenses so there is some competition but our bid is looking really good.

We believe we have done our apprentiship international and pro tour is the next logical step. Blurbs about Robbie McEwan as being the "jewel in the crown"

If they get the marquee GC they have been talking about and Cancellara then they deserve to get the PT license. It obviously depends who the gc rider they are getting is but the "not going through pro continental" arguement is not nesseracarily a good one because Sky and radioshack just bought and bought and bought riders to make their teams.

i think if the final 4 spots include big riders (rollin is included in that 4 i think) then they deserve protour status.

are they? If cancellara turns up there, they seem to be more of a spin off of Saxo than a first year team:D
NOt really as the team is defined by their management for these purposes. All the new Schleck team is is a collection of ex-Saxo riders but wholly new management. If anything Pegasus have more of a track record than Team Schleck as they are an evolution of Fly-V.

the other 3 would have to be huge signings imo - one being spartacus maybe. I doubt it though...
And yeah, like sky and radio last year, they wouldn't 'deserve' the status.

Agreed, though the whole team setup seems to be very professional and having womens and development squads, the whole package of what is Pegasus racing is very impressive. Not many other pro teams have that. If McQuaid and the UCI are wanting to globalise the sport then Pegasus being apart of the protour is the way. Chris White is a very good person to have in charge of this project.

Exactly. I am of the opinion that no new team 'deserves' immediate ProTour status. Not the Schlecks or the Fly V team. One of the pillars of the application is reputation and consistency, how can new teams show reputation and consistency if they are new?
The UCI is once again shooting itself in the foot with all their procedures.
