The next day Contador's lawyers released a statement saying they will take action against anyone that reprints deflamatory and false stories. They must have been refering to this story because it was never heard of again.

Whether that means is it false, or just that nobody has the guts to repeat it without access to the original souce, remains unknown.

So that story seems to have gone away completely...hard to believe the UCI didn't investigate it...

When it comes as an anonymous source to a German journalist, what do you expect the UCI to do? It took Landis to say "I doped, and here's how, and here is who helped me, and here's how,". I think putting a name behind it is important.

Surely they must have talked to the Astana team and tried to find out who it was, can't just turn a blind eye on this can they? Next thing you know AC walks and this story stays in the air, how bad...

If the UCI tried to find out who it was, I'm sure it had more to do with telling him to shut the hell up than to find more dopers. ;)

Love your screen name. Reminds this aging "ex-dot-commer" of Urban Fetch and Kozmo!

Contador and his team are about to throw anybody and everybody under the bus to save their client. The Spaniard cyclists and their federation are a joke, and "doping" to them is really no big deal, just look at the way AC is paraded around like he's some sort of victim in this situation. Anyone who actually believes the "meat" theory is a bigger clown than AC for inventing it.

Hard to disagree with that!

Yes these were the good old days, eh ;-) Must admit I don't remember Urban Fetch and Kozmo but I'll look them up!

Contador's legal team mining his treasure

Karma is fearsome. Where once contador's "talent" on a bike made him rich and famous, now his fame and fortune are being frittered away on legal expenses. These accusations represent a new goldmine for lawyers. Not only do they have to deal with the cycling regulatory bodies, but also pursue the libel/defamation cases. He could easily surpass Armstrong in the "most lawsuits filed" category. Recent actions make his chances of winning more Tours than Armstrong much less likely.

BTTT for what remains a mystery to me...that story is "gone" but HUMO never got sued, so what gives ?!

The online article was supposed to be a sample of a longer article in the paper edition that was to hit newsstands the following week. I watched online, and not a single story came of it. I think that if anyone bothered to look at the magazine, they could see that it wasn't a reliable source. You can pick that up by looking at the stories on the website. Most people aw it at a secondary source. Look at the site once and ask yourself of all the cycling and general news publications in the world, how would someone connected to a Kazakh team get hooked up with Humo "The Wild Site"?

Check it out, and please let this thread die. It's in Dutch if you need to have it translated, but with top stories like Porn Parody, Drunken Partygoers and a dancing bird video, it's pretty obvious it's not about journalistic integrity. Pick a member of Astana team or staff, picture them in your mind, and ask how they'd connect with this place.

Humo may have a tongue in cheek style, but they don't make **** up. They didn't get sued because Contador didn't want the actual source to be revealed, and/or they probably didn't have a case.

If you would have actually looked at the site you would see they have an interview with Bessel Kok this week, the new boss of Quick-Step: http://www.humo.be/tws/deze-week/21...dende-engel-van-de-quickstep-wielerploeg.html

So tell me, why would an Astana team member (say, a Belgian soigneur) have a higher journalistic standard than the new Quick-Step boss (and former Belgacom CEO)? Humo is a very popular magazine, for someone from or living in Belgium, it would make all the sense in the world to go to them.

If the man interviewed by HUMO does indeed work for Astana, his identity will never be revealed because then he'll never work for another team again.

So nothing was accomplished aside from causing the Lance-loving anti-Contador sycophants to foam at the mouth and howl at the Moon for a quick fifteen minutes in glee.

So what reall did it accomplish besides getting the Lance loving anti-Contador sycophants to foam at the mouth and howl at the Moon?

A HUMO journo making up the story seems improbable also.
I guess we will have to wait for the next installment.
Should be June/July - you heard it here first.

The longer story contained no extra info on AC. Everything on AC was already in the short version.
One can only agree with Lanark and Polish. Really no reason whatsoever to think the story was made up.
