The good thing about Mike Tomalaris is that he had stuck with cycling and helped SBS persist with it's Tour coverage, expanding it to a full live coverage and live coverage of other cycling events like Paris-Roubaix. He deserves praise and support for that and for his enthusiasm. Having said that it amazes me that given the time he has been involved, and the people he has had a chance to be involved with, he appears to have learnt nothing, his continuing ignorance is astounding. Paul Sherwin is a Lance fanboi from his days as Motorola press officer, clearly he sees this as an honorary lifetime position. It's disappointing to see how Liggett and Sherwin and also Sean Kelly on Eurosport bag Cadel, either damning him with faint praise in a very condescending manner or attacking him for not been the swashbuckling superhero that he isn't, whilst also applying a different standard to a certain other rider that they are completely in thrall to.
Phil Liggett is the Murray Walker of cycling and his errors of fact are becoming increasingly bizarre: last night he kept insisting that Col de Madeleine was Col du Colombiere. At times I just turn the sound off as an alternative to throwing up. If only Matt Keenan could do the complete coverage.
