Garmins first win of many this year I believe.

Sky throw away the first win of many this year i believe.

Where did Gerrans finish then. 3rd. Thats still good points for the 50% who chose him.

Rogers should have been there.

Yes, but why let a garmin rider up the road? Especially Bobridge. They should of chased him down straight away or had a guy attack with him and go in the break with him. Two years in a row garmin have pretty much won the same way.

What a great day. Didn't get there early enough to participate in the
Rec Ride but I ended up doing most of the course anyway (when the race
was on too :D ).

Had a great spot up at the KOM. That hill is tough. I stopped to watch
the race once, and had to get off again with 200m to walk I was that
knackered.

Race itself was great, good to see some lesser known riders like
Calabria, Jongewaard (although he's been around awhile) and Crawford
get some spotlight.

You wouldn't know the Pegasus team collapsed (fyi they all wore grey
2XU jerseys) - Mike Tomalaris never mentionws it!

Well done to Jack Bobridge, he held off some of the best from
Australia. He said he managed to get to his thresold and held it there
for a lot longer than he thought.

I don't think live coverage would have been as good. They would have
to have everyone off the roads all to make there's no accident the
whole course through. One of the great things was people being able to
go up and down at will (within reason).

Final highlight of the day was talking to Cam Meyer, wishing him luck
for the TT. :D Pity my cam battery died at the podiums.

Was a great day and good race. Now to try and upload the photos I got and see if they're good.

Just back from the race today. Super ride by Bobridge. He looked strong on the 3rd last time up the climb but then looked spent the next time round. Thought he would be reeled in when the gap dropped to 30sec but all guts on the last lap/climb. Was sucking up the big ones with spit all over his face so deserved the win. Super ride also from Goss who did a lot better than expected and obviously carrying some fine early season form. Garmin I think had 4 in the top 10 with Bobridge, Meyer x 2 and Wilson.

Huh? I did. I should've revised the program better. #1 was Trav and #2 was Cam. Must've thought I was the biggest idiot. Well still a true professional considering he talked for a bit. :D

John Craven has hit back at the riders complaining about the nationals circuit. Rogers and porte have both defended the circuit, But mcewen, brown, renshaw, lancaster, cooke & leigh howard have all complained about it not giving the sprinters a chance.

''Mark, if you want to go and ride the Tour of Qatar, or the Tour of Oman on a flat course, feel free. Or get yourself properly fit for Buninyong.

''Mark specialises as a lead-out man in Europe, and maybe, just maybe, he needs to learn how to win again. And I say that in the kindest possible way.

''I'm a big fan of Robbie McEwen's … but maybe it's time that he just rode off into the sunset and let the young men take over and he can go out as glamorously as he came into the sport.

''I don't want to change the course, I don't want to vary it. I would consider it only if we had a massive decline in our entries and a substantial drop in spectators, but it's getting bigger and bigger every year.''

I'm personally on Craven's side here. Renshaw especially needs to pull his head in and learn to climb. And I told renshaw that on twitter.

He has his head stuck up his jack seat.

They should be alternated between states each year. Just ridiculous having them on one course every year, year after year for six years.

Personally I don't give a toss about the sprinters, they are only looking after their own interests. I'm sure if you asked a pure climber like Matty Lloyd he would say the course is too easy, he would prefer it finishing on something like Mt Hotham.

Somewhere in between each type of course, in a different state each year is what should happen.

In Defence of what Mark Renshaw said The Australian Road Titles are favoured towards Climber/Puncher types of riders, which Mark is not....But to say he should "Pull his head in and learn to climb"is a little steep, considering Mark hails from Bathurst which is in the middle of the blue mountains. As someone who knows Mark on a personal level he certainley can climb and climbs quite well considering his stature and size.Just a few points maybe some posters didnt know?
Question:Does anyone know how long the Nationals Road course are leased to Bunningyong for?

1. Matt Goss, Baden Cooke & leigh Howard were all right up at the front of the race near the finish. All are sprinters and this year was one of the fastest races across the course and they were up and around with the big hitters.

2. It is well known that renshaw is not a great climber. Cadel Evans hails from an area near Katherine were there are no mountains whatsoever. But he is still a climber. I am pretty sure Cavendish made a comment about Renshaw in the tdf how it made him feel better because he was with a worse climber than himself. Anyway, if he can climb then why did he drop out so early yesterday?

3. I think Buninyong has it for 4 more years.

Speaking to Mark after the race he feels the course is not suited to his style of riding, mainly favouring the lighter type of rider.
Regaurding point 2 you are correct just cause you live in the mountains doesnt make you a climber"but having been on training rides with Mark around Mount Panorama "He can climb OK"
Point 3 I guess if thats the case Mark will have to wait another 4 years before he can win a National Title on the Road.
But thanks for the quick response Aus.

Everything else is for sprinters...

One thing not being taken in to account is that every other race in the Australian summer season is for sprinters.

The NSW series, the Bay Crits, and especially the TDU are sprinter's races. Without the Nationals on a climber's circuit, there is no chance for a European-based climber to win a major race on home soil, or for a local climber to pull off a high-profile win against the European-based pros.
