I like Ivan as well. Speaks the truth..

How do you come up with this stuff?? :D

Basso, the convicted doper, who never admitted his offence, did everything he could to avoid it, kept the omertà so that he could slip straight back into the peloton after his ban as if nothing had happened...and you like him??

And now, you are holding him up as a paragon of truth. :D:D:D

I think Basso isn't a doper since 2006.

I cannot prove absolutely that he has been doping since then, it is basicly a matter of opinion, you have yours, I have mine. Mine is that he has been doping all his career like almost every cyclist in the peloton today.
Cycling has failed

Hasn't Basso been making his data freely available online for a few months/years now?

Even if he is doping, at least he's being semi-transparent.

Just google Elisa Basso :D.

Ivan is a nice guy, as well. I quite like him.
'

.........According to CONI, Elisa Basso is forbidden “to join or to hold any position within the Italian Olympic Committee, Italian national sporting federations or the associated sporting disciplines; to frequent sporting facilities, spaces designated for athletes and their coaches; or to take part in sporting events that are held in national territory or are organised by the forenamed sporting entities.”

Yikes.....

Robobasso is definitely making a comeback in May.

I always liked the name UFOBasso better;) as that year he was seriously like an unidentified flying mountain climbing object. But 2006 was a site to behold. Riding up mountains, like it was a leisurely sunday recovery ride, breathing through his nose, winning by 10minutes over noted GT superpower José Enrique Gutiérrez:eek: putting 12min into Simoni and almost 20min into the previous 2 edition winners Cunego and Savoldelli.

But you have to remember this Basso was only intending to dope for the Tour de France....so this performance was obviously clean:rolleyes: and remember we now know that everyone stopped doping in 2006.......

I dont think we'll ever see UFOBasso/RoboBasso again.....and i think if we did the sport would have to have taken some serious steps backwards

Elisa Basso is the partner of Eddie Mazzoleni.

You can do your own Googling in him if you don't know his history.
I watched him ride in the Giro in 07, on his way to the finish in Bergamo, his home town. I didn't really know who he was at the time, but me and a mate both commented on him as he went past. His eyes looked wild.

That's why Basso's account on Ritchie Porte and his own 420watts [=6w/k for Basso] has to be taken very seriously. He knows what he did in 06, rode at I guess 6,7w/k at that time. Now he is much cleaner, losing the 10% gain of Fuentes dope, and knows it is ridiculous what Sky have done. And are getting away with it.

I don't want to be an ar@ehole but if you really don't/did't know Mazzoleni it is surprizes me you have been following cycling for 30 years.

Imagine the control she could have over you if you were a doped up boyfriend, she was your supplier, and she also happened to have a penchant for frequent, wild sex.....

Some of us have been racing that long too. If you had, which you haven't, you'd understand how irrelevant the circus that is pro tour riding is to bike racing in general.

As for being an ar@ehole, that is your prerogative.

(now, back on the ignore list you go)

The Science in Sport guys are forever quoted as the virtue of clean cycling. They were at one point writing papers that Lance was more than likely to be clean. Now they're quoted on Sky threads.

SiS needs to be banned. They are terrible.

i always go back a few pages and reread the recent stuff I have missed. On this thread that is actually a few months, not a day or two unlike the Sky thread or the juicier LA threads from back in the glory days.

So did I miss something? Did the Science of Sport guys sprout some new article? FWIW I think the tennis federation needs to employ these guys. They could write some fluff science piece for them about how the Grand Slams are clean. Starting with the Aussie slam in a few weeks. Might be cleaner for once now that Nadal is sitting out. As for cycling.

@simo1773. VO2max isn't the be all of sports. It's total aerobic volume shifted over time at threshold that counts. How far you can go into you maximum for an extended period of time without cracking. Look at rowers...they have lower VO2max's, Drew Ginn one of Australia's greatest rowers has a V02max of about 70ml/kg. Guess how heavy he is? he peak oxygen consumption at his maximum is huge. If he were a cyclist or XC skier, his V02max would be enormous. Most of us get the details dude. Just because we quote a number doesn't mean we're myopic when looking at the whole issue.

@Ferminal. Did I miss something? Robobasso returning? Hell yeah!!!;) That ought to be good to watch. Does that mean the new LA is gonna race him at the Giro? EDIT: Apparently you think it does. Should be good. Should be good. Won't happen though. Sagan will be the only Liquigas guy to make a joke of Giro.

Regarding Basso's data on page 24. Not super detailed but there are two data sets where it's quite clear he was getting some top ups. Vuelta 2009 is one. Same for the data set after that in blue. Those results for both are whack. Giro he won looks clean actually looks clean. His hgb drops both in 2009 Giro and 2010 and his retics spike, indicating fatigue. Pretty much what they are simplistically supposed to do. Body is worn out, has to create extra red blood cells, hence the retic % jumps higher. The 2010 Tour is weird, but apart from that, after the 2010 Giro at a simple glance, it looks good.

Regarding Basso's sister. Yeah a looker. I'd hate to have been him. Would have been busting a few chops with her hanging around races. She was a supplier with her boyfriend. CONI really do not like her. Both her and her BF were alleged couriers and had a nice clientele given he was a pro rider. Some Italian dude called Eddy Mazzoleni that a few people above are getting into a biff over. Come on fellas, everyone knows who Eddy is! Apparently they're married. That part, I didn't know, or had forgotten. Gotta keep it all in the family after all hey?

Ivan is a good bloke. I liked Ivan. Like Jan too. More guys should bring their pretty sisters (and I guess mums if that's your angle) to their bike races. Anything that distracts from doped men in lycra with shaven legs is a good thing after all.:p

Attractive AND Evil!! The Talia al Ghul of pro cycling....

So her future offspring will be the progeny of the world's greatest super hero, which in this case means bike rider, and he will join his father as his future side kick? Oh do tell...the masses want to hear more. What are they going to call him? Damian? Isn't that the name of the anti-christ in some horror flick? Nah...couldn't be, could it? You see all the dot's you've missed? You've unleashed unwittingly, the end of the world!!!

Nice take there. Nice job. Talia al Ghul has BROWN hair. Not blonde. The father was the true villain and his league of shadows. the guy Liam Neeson was supposed to be in Batman Begins. Talia is not evil, nor is she a villain. Conflicted is what she is. Batman had himself a good time with her on more than one occasion, so she isn't true evil. Unless you're unconsciously suggesting her father is true evil, who would in turn be Ivan's daddy? Cycling wise who is that? Riis? Great analogy dude. You've given us the TRUE villain in cycling, Ivan's surrogate father and shown us who the future anti-christ of cycling is. Brilliant! Just brilliant. Now we know who not to trust and who to have taken care of!!!

Now getting back to reality. All Italians other than Ferrari and his big clientele are small fry in terms of doping. That includes the Basso's. Nibali and Scarponi deserve more questioning than Ivan does. Or his sister and her hubby IMO. They're past indiscretions warrant analysis, but currently, well there are bigger fish to fry.

He is stating a racing fact. It helps people understand how futile it is to attack them early.

How they got there is not relevant to most people, Basso knows that cycling is nine tenths preparation and that superior preparation is respected.

Nice of Basso to be so frank about it.

What will be interesting is how Contador and Andy counteract these tactics. Could be some interesting performances in the next Tour. Can't see Sky changing a winning formula but Rogers will be missed.
