Basso totally out of form, will he be able do something in the tour?

Do you guys remember how he sucked in last year tour of Romandie ? But in the end he was in perfect shape for the giro. So i think that he has enough time to regain his top form for the second half of the Tour.

Last year Basso didn't crash and Andy Schleck also didn't show much in the current season.

I would not say Menchov is on a great par to some of the other riders like Samu and Gesink. Basso will never retain his form of 05-06. I don't think he can therefore match some people's expectations. He's that one yr older too. He has a weak ITT. I am not going off at him i hope he goes well enough at the TDF. However other riders shall aim to peak for all 3 weeks and with his crash i don't know if he can. And in the TDF you need to be in good form all those 3 weeks especially if a favourite decides to go with Gilbert in the first week. I was also saying i would not consider him as favourite due to his form in the early season races even before the crash. Shleck at least podiumed a classic and yet everyone goes off at how he only focuses on the TDF and has a weak rest of the season ( ToC ). Hopefully Basso can get in the top 5, his team will work their asses off for him too.

I can't see it happening for Basso in July. I don't think he can make the podium. Top 5 at best. The time trial won't help and I don't think his team is as strong as last year.

As was mentioned earlier (by Roundabout?) he was maybe holding back at last year's Romandie. The lead up to the Dauphine has involved periods off the bike due to injury from a crash and before that I believe he had some type of illness that effected his training. He hasn't looked good at all this year and I'm fearful that he won't be a factor in the Tour which really is disappointing because I believe without Contador there (I don't think he will ride the Tour), Basso was the only one I trusted to stop the parade to the top step of the podium by Andy Schleck. Samuel Sanchez and Robert Gesink would have to have exceptional Tours and Andy would have to have even more so of his usual muck up for them to threaten his inevitable victory. So Andy fans can likely begin rejoicing from day one while those of us that aren't are in for a long 3 weeks.

imo his progress looked fine at the Dauphine.

He will struggle to win or podium I think, but I think with this course that was always the case.

Basso must be doing the same training approach than Andy Schleck, since both failed horrendously in the last races they participated in..

I'd expect him to come through from the injury, but may depend on the circumstances of the crash and whether anything similar presents itself to him.
I expected him to be better at the Dauphine though, so you could be right about his mind being a pivotal factor
