I didn't see it before he stood at the side of the road, but why not sacrifice Hodeg and swap bikes?

Not sure they saw it, and probably Remco didnt think fast enough to ask for it.
He was so stressed he did not even help the mechanic (he was moving the bike a lot ...)

Everyone in that group that thinks he can win the GC should go all out to keep that second group with Remco in it behind as far as possible. They're basically still keeping him in the race right now.

For example Lotto Soudal, you're not gonna win that stage, start riding for Wellens.
