Honest question I can't figure out the answer to: When was the last time the Portuguese road champion did the TdF before this year? Looking at the list of past winners it might even go back to Agostinho in the 70's.

EDIT: And that is how you do the jersey right. MTN isn't even the worst this year, I want to see the front. Sagan's though...What a total mess of colors.
Nelson Oliveira last year?

Agree about the Brit nat champs jersey. Why have three stripes when your flag isn't three-stripey?

As for creative jerseys; my favourites has to be Jelly Belly's take!

I like this one too!

Well bummer. Forgot he did the Tour last year/thought he'd just won the Time Trial champs. I'll go take my amnesia pills now. :p

It's the kind of flag that doesn't really lend itself well to a full-jersey version like a typical european tricolor. I'd rather it stay like this really. I found a shot of Manuel Cardoso in the Portuguese champs jersey while at Footon. I'm just...Glad I never witnessed this horror. To be fair, Footon was always a tad puke-ish. :D

On the other hand, I'd like to see a full version of the Union Jack on the British champion though, it'd be a beauty for sure. Still, this policy prevents the sort of horror you usually see with some teams (Trek...). The Swiss design is great. As far as the Norwegian one goes, Hushovd's at BMC has always stuck with me as one of the best ever.

 Somebody please make the bad national champion jerseys stop!!

This is not good indeed!
Allthough from a heli shot he will have a clear Norwegian flag on his back, but besides that you just can't see he's the norwegian champion from the front. Ridiculous.
Yeah, I think this one was much better.

To be honest, JJvR's south african national champ jersey works quite well due to the black part of the flag. EBH's jersey is not good, but it is not such an ugly disgrace like Sagan's jersey.

...but I'm wondering if the UCi rules were different back then and world champions of any discipline were able to wear the rainbow stripes after their win. Obviously rules now are that you can only wear rainbow either as the reigning or former world champion in the discipline you won it in. A track sprint WC doesn't wear rainbow for a BMX race, etc.
Either the rules were different back then, or there were effectively no rules about former world champion stripes. It's a pretty recent development, though - Danny Nelissen, amateur world champion in 1995, wore the stripes as a pro, and so did Michael Rasmussen as a former MTB world champion, or Thor Hushovd as... huh... u23 ITT world champion I guess? It was clearly optional, though. Back then things were simply less regulated, so you had things like Pascal Richard getting a custom Olympic champion jersey that would be all sorts of illegal now.

The German jersey is immense. Simple, stylish, effective. Everything it should be.

The Norwegian jersey is absolutely awful. You should NOT be able to make an awful Norwegian champions' jersey. Those Scandinavian cross jerseys are so easy to do well that it's almost more impressive that they completely screwed it up.

Yes, clean, stark design. Helped by the fact that the sponsor's logos aren't too busy or in some deranged colour.

What are Bora's other national jersey's like? On the basis of this one, they can keep the German road race championship in perpetuity and nobody will complain. They've even managed to do a black/white bib mix that works.
