Yes and unbelievable when you think about how good he was. I would also include Robbie McEwen.

Ah good old robbie,

i would count the WC as winning a big one day, but yeah lemond did come so close many time, different age we are in now dont think we will ever see many grand tour worlds doubles again its just too much to do.

For what regard active rider i would mention Flecha, lot's of top 10 but no victory.

Also Frank Schleck deserve a mention since even though he is more a GC guy he has always been good in the ardennes.

Boogerd.. how many podium places and top 5 places in monuments without winning? If he'd won them all he'd be a legend

I'd go for Freddy Maertens and in second place ofcourse poor Leif Hoste.

Regarding active riders I'd go for Cuddles

No way, not even of the active riders.

I was obviously referring to the active riders, I already made clear Lemond is my pick for all-time riders.

And tell me another current rider who has four monument podium placings without winning one.

Evans? Are you serious? He hasn't even been on a monument podium once.

Samuel Sanchez has 4 podium placings in Lombardia
Frank Schleck has 4 podium placings too

Flecha of course deserves it most of all in my opinion (4 podium placings too).

He won WC, a couple of Top-tens in LbL and Lombardia. He won Fleche Wallonne. The last 6/7 years he was almost always in the top-10 of the World Tour Rank.

You could argue that Fränkie and Samu are better classics-riders. But I found Cuddles the better all-round rider.

And by all means it is really more a gut-based feeling than an actual 100% objective effort

Of course Evans is a better all-around rider. But is that what the OP meant? Was he referring to classics riders, all-around riders who regularly raced the classics, or simply all riders?

He wasn't very clear, to be honest.

No matter which criteria, Hushovd shouldn't be considered. He have never ridden a monument and been close to the victory. Even if he had the chance to win, he would gladly sell it for a 2nd place. Truly pathetic rider

The OG have only been open to professionals since 1996. It is nowhere near the worlds in status.
