Danielson on team and no CVV ?
Why is CVV not there, related to investigation, or is it from injury?
David Millar and Zabriskie there as well.
interesting... who is their GC hope?
Danielson, Zabriskie, Millar ???

Will TD crash out or get another stomach bug.....

Riiight, that's why he won a stage in the 3d week of the 2006 Vuelta, and finished 6th overall.

I think it could go either way for TD as both scenarios have played out in the past.

Seems that Millar isn't the climber TD is but seems more "durable".
Zabriskie never seemed like a GC candidate to me. Could that change?

In the LA thread, there was speculation that CVV was a witness in the ongoing case and that he needed to "re-evaluate his life" or something like that. It may be pure speculation, but could that be why he is not at the Vuelta this year? He seems like a better GC rider than TD, but things change sometimes.

For the record, I would like to see TD finaly get some redemption in a grand tour, but am not holding out for it.

Is Soler a reserve? He did not ride the Tour or the Giro so I am not sure why the team doesn’t take him to La Vuelta. Surely he must be healthy again (I haven't read any news that he crashed yet).

Uran had a broken clavicle. So I am not sure about him.

What I was thinking, especially re: Nordhaug. I would have thought his year would have been considered a pleasant surprise. Froome and Augustyn seem to be regressing a bit.

Nordhaug is a bit under the radar, I reckon he's done quite well.
Froome disappointing.

Tommy D will certainly go in to the Vuelta as Garmin's GC leader but I don't think anyone expects him to make the top 20. I'd be impressed if he made the top 50 to be honest.

Regarding CVV, I have no idea what his involvement in the Armstrong case is and what that has to do with anything, but I do remember reading an interview with JV right after Christian crashed out of the Tour where he said he had told CVV to go home and take a break from cycling from a while, because he was really demotivated after doing so well in the '08 tour and then having most of the next two seasons ruined by injury.

Well I read time ago that VDV was preparing for La Vuelta... also some tweets from him where he said that too... This is weird maybe that Amstrong affair is hitting hard and VDV is not totally focus in his build up towards La Vuelta

Hmm, I just had a quick glance over CVV's twitter going back to May and he hasn't mentioned the Vuelta. Certainly his plan at the start of the season was Giro-Tour, having crashed out of both it's possible he decided to re-focus on the Vuelta but if that's the case I haven't read it anywhere.

Wow... I don't know... But I remember that I saw it somewhere...

From Velonation regarding CVV:

There are several others who also must be taken into consideration. A glancing at the start list reveals that Christian Vande Velde is not listed for the race, but that’s an error; on top form, he could be a serious rival to the other contenders.

The Vuelta organisers mistakenly named his Garmin Transitions team-mate Riccardo Van Der Velde as being set to take part, but VeloNation has confirmed that this is an error and that his elder namesake would indeed be riding. He will be aided by Tom Danielson, who showed promising form in the recent Tour of Poland.

That was when he was riding on Hog Juice (tm). Things may be a little different on Garmin.

TD could easily end up the top ten if he could finish the race. Finishing is a pretty big if for him, though.

CVV is in the same position. While TD gets sick every GT, CVV crashes out. I think it will be a contest between the two to see which one disaster strikes first. I am betting that CVV breaks a bone before TD spends the night on a toilet.

I'm glad to see CVV riding too. I'd love to see a real GC fight with no hand holding, especially if Bola del Mundo helps decide the race. My early faves are Nibali, Roche, Sastre and Farrar for the VDS points, but I'll be satisfied with competitive racing every day.

Tommy D was pretty high up in the standings until like half way thru last year if I remember correctly so a top 10 would be a bare minimum. I think it should be Nibali's to lose. If Frank Schleck actually tries he would be my next bet for a podium place, but Tour de Suisse this year notwithstanding (and the '07 Giro) the Schlecks have a habit of being non-chalant outside of the Tour and Ardennes.

With some people who are at least as strong if not stronger in the climbs (Mosquera, Menchov, Anton) I don't see why this should be Nibali's to lose.

Rujano after winning a stage in Colombia:

"I think my win showed that I'm in a good condition for the Vuelta."

Come again?
