Well it would not be for Hushovd. BMC seem more interested in grand tours than one day races. It's possible they have an additional rider in mind.

Hushovd is known to appreciate great lead-outs so he could have been the one to ask for Oss. Oss is probably faster than Hushovd now though. BMC likes to buy top riders so they might be buying a true sprinter for Oss to lead out. Of course, they might not be getting Oss at all...Sagan likes him a lot.

BMC have fallen flat again.

Classics campaign was a near disaster. Phinney is way overrated. He’s not Sagan.

Not sure Cadel will save them.

TVG is the shinning light but the Sky team have overshaadowed him.

He will get killed in the GTs.

Where to for BMC?

Melodramatic does not even begin to describe it. There are 4 classics left for one.

Bit hard to call their classics campaign a disaster when their only elite classics rider has set only the next two weeks to perform. That is what their early season will be judged on.

GVA punched well above his weight and Ballan was a non-participant. The idea that Phinney could compete with the best in a monument this year was pure fantasy.

If things continue like this Hushovd is not returning to his former self. The next three months will determine if that is the same for Gilbert and Evans.

Their classics riders go to Sky, in exchange for some of Sky's GT riders + EBH.

Over dramatic considering there was no real leader going in to this part of the classics, which was and is there main problem. They will need Gilbert to land at least one of the Ardennes Classics to make it look relatively successful. But hopefully they will learn from this going into the Tour and realise that Cadel doesn't have it anymore and they need to make TJ the undisputed team leader

They really haven't done that bad. Without Ballan they've probably done as well as can be expected actually now that I think about it.
GVA got a top 10 in PR, RVV, GW, SB, and Omloop. And IMO has a good shot at getting them a win or podium at BP.
Phinney was disappointing in PR, but he did get them a top 10 at MSR. And he's only 22 so still has plenty of time to mature and become a classic contender.
Oss got them a podium at E3.
Hushovd wasn't likely to do much anyways, or at least I didn't expect him to.

Gilbert at the Ardennes will be the deciding factor on if they did good in the classics this year or not that good.

We're going back to what fundamentally created this thread: the balance of huge investment on riders like Gilbert & Hushov & what they have returned in victories to the team, which isn't that equal at all.

I cannot see either Evans or Gilbert doing that much in the Ardennes, since neither has shown form to excel any expectations...

Correct.

The money side works for Sky in GTs. Much harder in single day races.

Can't be done.

QSPS do well considering their budget and objectives.

If they do well with Cav at the Tour then their season will be good.

BMC don't appear like a team.

I would add that sky doesn't buy "big name" other than wiggin fiasco. They practically sign people that sometime we didn't even know their name until they signed with sky. (we hear them here and there but not a house hold name like gilbert and hushovd). So as far as investment, sky getting their money worth. BMC to me, it's like a rich guy who can't stop his craving buying a shiny toys. Gilbert, Hushovd, Evan hasn't shown anything since last year. QSPS at least their investment paid off with cavendish. It's just they haven't figured out how to provide a solid train for cavendish.

Doesn't it strike you as utterly pointless to criticise Gilbert for achieving nothing in the Ardennes before he's even had a chance to achieve anything?

Hushovd has been a bit out of sorts, but that doesn't mean Gilbert will be too.

BMC stands at #7 of the 19 team in the World Tour rankings, following P-R.

Hardly a disaster.

The fact is that with their big budget they are not getting as much as some other teams, especially by looking at their main guys.

He's won quite some already this year. 6 individual stages and a TTT. Albeit all of them except the Qatar overall have been lesser.

Sh!t small races. Greipel level stuff, as Cav would say himself.

Bouhanni 4
Cocquard 4
Bos 4

All at 1/10 of the price.

Cav needs to deliver on the big scene to pay off. Nothing to suggest he can't, but until he does....

Same with Gilbert since we are in the BMC thread. Fail to deliver in Ardennes...

To be fair to Cav OPQS have a **** a train for him ad he's usually had to do it himself
