No excuses for BMC.

Och hired Freddy Viaene as BMC's Head Soigneur. Everyone in the sport knows his history, personal Soigneur for Lance then Floyd. Anyone surprised Freddie hired a dealer? Of course not.

The "I do not know" excuse is a bunch of BS. In this day teams HAVE to know who is on their staff. Their supposed lack of knowledge shows they do not care
+1.

The voice of reason.

This can not be good for BMC. For some reason I feel that this is more incriminating that the Lotto affair.

Yeah but if the EPO was actually for his personal use as a rider he would never have confesed. If he did it so easily, there must be something bigger underneath. This is what scholars call Maslow's hyerarchy of excuses.

(Only half-kidding)

Yeah, i just mentioned it because the question had been raised why he was only part time soigneur at BMC and if he worked for other teams. Maybe he doesn't do anything else between that and ride?

There are at least 4(edit 5) USA U23 riders who are "friends" on facebook - makes me think Sven S must have been an employee of the USA Cycling Belgium program at one time...

Also, there are other young Swiss & Belgian cyclists

This doesn't look good for the "new" generation - but did we already know that?

The statements by Och and the soigneur were embarrassing. I don't see how they can possibly believe these statement make them look more credible or deflect suspicion from the team, reminds me of some of the semi-confessions we have seen from riders in the past where they admit to doping but claim it was only "once or twice".

This certainly casts more suspicion on Cadel. Even though the drugs were seized in 2009 the soigneur apparently has continued to work with the team since then. Hopefully through both legal and journalistic investigations eventually who the drugs were intended for will come out.

October 2009 points to usage in the 2010 season.

Yes... but not as much doping as there would have been had this batch of EPO not been intercepted.

It is so true that BMC has been thrust into an even more shady-looking stance by the drivel that came out of Och's and GVA's mouths today with regard to their knowledge of SvenS.

The more I think about what Och said the madder I get. He is so used to getting away with !!! and someone needs to call him on this finally. Think about his comments over the past months w/r to Ballan and S and the doping investigation, then this...

Total loser no spine

BMC Racing Team Statement: Sven Schoutteten

The BMC Racing Team is taking immediate action to investigate what involvement Sven
Schoutteten might have had with riders and staff during his interaction with the
team. Schoutteten is alleged to be part of a doping investigation in Belgium that
stems from 2009, before the BMC Racing Team was even acquainted with him.

Internal Investigation
"This is very disturbing news," BMC Racing Team President/General Manager Jim
Ochowicz said. "Although he was only picked up to work when we didn't have enough
regular therapists to support the races (he worked two days this year and 13 in
2010), we want to make sure his interaction with our team was nothing out of the
ordinary. We do not believe there were any improprieties happening during his time
with the team, but we want to make sure. He was not scheduled to be at this year's
Tour de France, of course."

Best regards,
BMC Racing Team

If I am reading Jim the 'Blah, Blah Blacksheep' correctly he is saying that Sven S. was only a part time drug courier for the team, not one of their full time couriers.

Cadel lift up that carpet for me.

Och's PR advisor has also given a press conference

There are no dopers in BMC.

Remember Och, just keep on saying 'Aww shucks' like Wilbur Young (does that make Rihs Mr Ed?) and the media will buy it hook line and sinker.

Remember folksy guys are never bad guys.

IT was Lance

LA infiltrated this guy into BMC since Cadel has always raced so clean. Watch out Andy your team is next..... I can obviouly see the trend:D

Amazing how many on this site point the finger at LA for everything that happens in cycling.

Not surprised with a Belgie soigneur moving 'the goods'.

Totally surpised by BMC initial response, and the ensuing official back-peddaling. How stupid do these guys think people are?

Unbelievable. There needs to be some sort Golden T*rd award for this type of BS.

Am I misreading something? The article seems to reference this being a 2009 investigation yet the comments make it seem like the arrest was this week.

they originally intercepted epo in late 2009
they then arrested him earlier this week and searched his house and found more needles and syringes.

Assumedly they have spent 18 months watching what hes up to.

its all in the articles.

"Baghdad Bob" was pretty adamant that there were no WMDs.
Seemed to taunt and joke that there were no WMDs.
In hindsight, many people now agree that Baghdad Bob was correct.

Along similiar lines, I can see the link between Cadel and Sven ultimately disproven.

A Belgian mid-level cyclist having a satchel full of EPO? Hardly news. . .
Ochowicz saying or doing something stupid? Wow, call 60 Minutes!

None of this makes me suspect organized doping at BMC-- nor do their results in recent memory. This guy was probably looking to sell the stuff to anyone, at any level, anywhere in Europe. I'm not really any fan of Cadel, but please let's have a bit more evidence before ejecting BMC from the Tour.
