In all fairness, Van garderen had a very nice career. He won WT stage races, some nice WT stages, as well as a white jersey and top five finish at the tour. I would guess most pro riders would sign on for those palmares.

I believe the mental pressure of being the US's next great stage racer got to Van Garderen. Hopefully McNulty can keep the mental pressure under control.
He had a very good career, indeed.
I think he falls under the category that always had the potential for even more given his talent though.
I view it that Tejay had a great career. I hope that Brandon can do what Tejay did. Obviously more would be fantastic too.

It is interesting when a rider or any athlete for that matter starts winning. The floodgates just seem to open with the confidence being there. Great talent and years of hard work paying off.
Brandon now the favorite to win the Tour. Pogacar and Almeida relegated to water boys.
Hopefully that was tongue in cheek, because that's the type of hype that will end with "he never lived up to his potential". He is making solid progress though!
Agreed, I do see him having great results in the Ardennes and as a stage hunter though.
Given Pogi's history at the Tour it's fair to have him as plan B in case Brandon crashes.
If they have the same bike size, Pogi should be ready to give Brandon his bike if the latter has an accident.
Assuredly. And in the TDF, if there should come a stage where Pogi has gone up the road solo, the DS should be ready to call him back to assist if Brandon gets in trouble--like Marc Soler for Quintana in the Vuelta.
Losing 22s to Hayter on a short hilly TT which ought to suit him...
