Also, happy at the 'loss' of the TOC. Should get them to take down the hype a few dozen notches.

I think you'll want to watch it this year. It's certainly the first year I've truly been excited to watch since the inaugural race when I lived there and was able to go in person.

Mt. Baldy is no Big Bear and I guarantee you Sagan won't be winning.

I grant you the over-hype is tiresome.

[Edit] Turns out there will two summit finishes this year.

A lot of it depends on a host broadcaster covering the event live.

It's not as if Eurosport are sending their camera crews to the events - they just send the commentators to their Paris studio and they're following the same pictures that we see.

I'm always surprised that no-one covers the Tour of Britain - maybe Sky will this year.

I definitely remember watching the Eneco Tour live on Eurosport a few years ago - but I don't think they've ever shown San Sebastian live.

Tour of Britain has been covered for several years by ITV4 in the uk. And highlights packages shown in other countries.

Never trust ESP TV schedule.
There are always positive and negative surprises.

For example womens tennis during the Giro, or they show races that were not scheduled or coverage starts earlier. :D

Main question for me is, whether Transitions Tyler will be there again, and again, and again....

Yes, womens tennis will probably be a problem again this year, 2 people nobody has ever heard of hitting a ball back and forth, but at least its only 3 sets and not 5 because that would derail the cycling coverage completely.

At least this time it will be more varied this year, since they will have Thor (most definitely) and Heinrich (maybe).

But yeah, those ads are evil.

I think we actually spend more time watching Tyler trying to pick up this girl with his neat gimmicky glasses than the actual races.

Wtf. Eurosport advert for spring schedule toady had

MSR 19th March
PAris Roubaix 10th April
Amstel Gold 17th April
Fleche Wallone 20th April
Liege Bastonge Liege 24th April

Giro 7th May.

No Flanders?

bloody hope they are showing flanders. Thats one of the "flanders classics" and there wont be many online streams available as the Belgian Anti Piracy federation are shutting down all FC streams and youtube highlights.

ITV4 will really have a case to answer to if eurosport dont show it (itv have the rights in the uk to show the classics live but dont show them)

You will also have noticed that for the MSR advert they had clips of Brad Wiggins timetrialling. Dont remember wiggins tt'ing his way to an MSR win.

Anyhow, even if British Eurosport decide not to show it - chances are it will be on Eurosport HD (which is the same as the pan-european Eurosport International).

Either way, I will be there in the flesh - so who cares...;)

I can read;)

Enough so that i remembered the article, the thread and bumped it after a month.

You may also notice that the eurosport advert was yesterday, not 40 days ago.

And eurosport hd is another matter. The fact that cycling fans in the UK, have unlike most sports been able to watch this thing of ours without paying £50 a month for a sky sports package (though admitedly a few quid a month is needed) has been one of the advantages. If a race is limited to eurosport hd then that is very very bad news.

Ive asked harmon direct on twitter, see if we get a reply.

For UK viewers it really does throw up the ITV question, they have the rights, they dont use them. :/

Didn't know that - very interesting.

They have in the past shown highlights a month or so later, but didn't know they had live rights.

I wonder what Brit Eurosport have on in place? Probably motorcycling or stock car racing or something.

Should be able to find a stream hopefully if its on HD. I think.

apparently theyve had the live rights for a couple of years and until 2013, they just dont use them, instead they just show highlights a month later. Trying to get to the bottom of it.

Dont bank on it. Flanders is owned by "flanders classics". they have the Belgian Anti-Piracy federation on board. It was the BAP who tried to take down all the omloop feeds last weekend (and pretty much succeeded) and they also put in copyright claims against all the youtube coverage. We are expecting the same for all the races they own:

Omloop Het Nieuwsblad
Dwars door Vlaanderen
Gent-Wevelgem
Ronde van Vlaanderen
Scheldeprijs
Brabantse Pijl
FC Cyclo

I guess they just don't realise what potential market there would be for it?

Would be awesome if they took some races on.

I will certainly drop them an email and enquire - can't do any harm.

I think all these networks are missing a big marketing piece called the "internet-based subscription"

Living here on the east coast USA (and I've said this in other forum topics) I would pay for a decent subscription to Sporza's cycling coverage Eurosport etc..much like soccer has done.

However, I'm sure.... that I represent the minority.

It's silly for the bigger organisations. The ASO, RCS, Flanders Classics could sell their own packages.

Why stop illegal links when most countries can't get the footage through any legal avenue. They are missing out on huge marketing and advertising opportunities by not having an online platform which can support a global audience.

What are illegal feeds online really infringing on when there is no live online service provided in the first place?

Imagine paying say $50 or $100 to have P-N, P-R, FW, L-B-L, Tour, Vuelta, P-T and all the other ASO events, live, HD, on demand replays, special coverage etc.

I would happily part with $50 for live video (don't even need commentary...) of all the "Flanders Classics", instead they offer me no such package and then deny the only possible way I could see the race live.

Omloop was a nightmare, all the switching and trying to find channels and also the phony V-Share plug in.

The scenario of getting coverage and then it getting pulled again looks likely by the sound of things.
