Bonar has lots of potential. For example: Watching Dawg motor up the mountain gives me a bonar. This describes an emotional state similar in scope and intensity to sexual excitement, but which only obtains when watching unnatural acts in cyclesport.

From this we derive its variants: ""Today's stage was bonarrific." "Leveraging the sum of its marginal gains, the team today bonared its opposition." Advocates for British domination in the sport may come to be known as "Bonarites", or perhaps the more respectful Bonarist.

Sky might be modified to Sky-Bonar, or simply be referred to henceforth as Team Bonar.

Sean Kelly knows... Bonarfications an dat.

that is sports fandom101.

men wanna be them
women wanna nail them
men want their wives to nail them
sport is metaphorical paroxysm of arousal

for Wilt Chamerlin, see: DKLillee and Jeff Thompson, cricket was the national hagiography[sic]

when the team doctor for Australia needed a locum for Sydney during the 5 day test, they brought in a female doc, now one of the main roles for the doc was to supervise the STDs of the rider/cricketer, and the cricketers/players were not happy =/= next time female locum

It is Steeve Coogan, you dont have any basis for asking him about his artistic decisions.

like characters in the frame in blue velvet mise-en-scene disappearing for the next cut.

dont ask dont tell. aka, US military policy on everything and their male to male contingent.

If USADA was as "efficient" as UKAD, a certain someone would still be 7 time TdF champion.

USADA had it handed to them on a platter - a federal platter - otherwise they'd have been much the same as UKAD.

In an effort to rescue his reputation I hear that this doctor has decided to change his name.

From now on he will be known as Dr Mark S. Viagra.

A few years ago there was a rumor going around that vaso-dialators (or whatever they're called) such as Viagra could enhance athletic performance. A few months after I read about this, pro riders started appearing on podiums with obvious erections under their jerseys. And the really funny thing is that no one in the press - no announcer, writer, photographer - seemed to notice, or ever mentioned it.

I was waiting for Pfizer to announce they would sponsor a race, or a team. There is still time, though.

Britain lecturing the world on morality? That’s rich

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/apr/10/britains-struggle-free-world-morality-tax-avoidance

A sarcastic take on how Britain is no better than many of the countries it criticises for wrongdoings. I wonder why I posted it in his thread?

The final paragraph should strike a chord here: "The next time you’re in London to collect your latest batch of Eurofighters take a note of every time you hear British people congratulating themselves on being the most enlightened and civilised country in the known universe. Then ask yourself why they all look the other way when this is all happening. Their passivity can be bought cheaply with a few royal babies; some gold medals at the next Olympic Games and arranging another one of their wars against another third world country."

Definitely not.

The UK is a nation of stoners ;)

Is there a source for that? Typing it into google I found this - http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/14416184.Former_WADA_president_Dick_Pound_believes_sport_is_digging_own_grave_with_doping_and_internal_politics/ but no actual source on the research. Instead that same sentence seems to have been used in an article on cyber crime.

In either case I can't see how anyone could conclude that PED's are a bigger market than recreational drugs.

...was "a huge shock" to read Italian research demonstrating the scale of the sport drugs market: "bigger economically than the combination of marijuana, cocaine, and heroin."

Thankfully not in Britain..

Maybe because street drugs are relatively cheap and self-administered, whereas PEDs involve laboratories, staying on the cutting edge, use of doctors, and in general are not cheap. With the right PEDs, carefully administered, an athlete or team can earn millions. Therefore they are willing (and generally able) to pay a high price for them. Ounce for ounce, PEDs are probably vastly more expensive than street drugs, so even though the quantity sold is much less than recreational drugs, the overall dollar amount spent could be the same or greater.

Global pharma= $1 trillion

Global drugs (illicit)= $321 billion estimated.

So global pharma is way bigger than illicit drugs trade, but I'd still be amazed if PEDS market gets anywhere near $321 billion. Everyone uses pharma. Only maybe 15-25% use illicit drugs. Only problem athletes (and some amateurs) use PEDS.

On the subject of comparing illegal drugs and PEDs, I remember seeing somewhere that the Mafia had significant involvement in the distribution of EPO in Italy in the 1990s. According to Roberto Saviano's excellent book Gomorrah, the Camorra now gets most of its money from its control of the narcotics trade in Italy: they also control the supply routes of many illicit substances (especially cocaine, I believe) into Europe as a whole. I wonder what role organised crime now has in PED distribution. I can't imagine it would compare to the power they receive from their stranglehold on narcotics.

There is a film trying to get made a year or 2 ago about a rider trying to make it pro in Belgium and the PED dealers are Russians*

Think the director is an ex cyclist and is based on his own experiences.

* I may be wrong about Russians being PED dealers.

Ahhh those pesky Russians.

The Australian Olympic swimming set up is currently trying to deflect attention away from its own dodginess by campaigning to get all Russians banned from Rio 2016

yeah, i was completely incredulous

I even query the fact that pharmacies go out of stock with EPO in an Olympic year, because the qualification events are staggered, and only a minute percentage qualify for the big Dance, so... how is it that hospitals, pharmacies and apothecaries go out of stock. Why, cant Ely Lily and AMGEN and Merck and Roche do the sums and meet demand, afterall, they are in it for the profit.

*and I know Amgen is a brand or a sub company under one of the pharmacy majors

how about Gennadi Touretski and Alex Popov and his swim team and elite squad at AIS in 1998? Whoops? was I supposed to say that? And how did the nandrolone find its way to his safe in Lake Burley Griffin? And which of his Australian pupils tested positive in 1998 before Swimming Australia swept it under the rug?
