They won’t say it to the media but they must now be thinking Pink is attainable. Bernal is still big favourite, but not as big as yesterday, I hope TBE light it up again on Thursday, that final climb is no joke.

Hopefully. He is massively dependend on Caruso being willing to go for the big one instead of just defending his podium. If the two teams work together against Bernal they have a chance. That is if today wasn't just a bad day for Bernal but the beginning of a trend.

Caruso won't cooperate, he'll try to defend, as we've seen today. He had a chance to drop Bernal, but he choose to ride tempo to defend from Yates, and he even paced Bernal in the process.
Yates of course will attack, and he'll attack hard, he smells blood...

Three years ago I was on Pratonevoso when he started to fade. And I was on Finestre when he collapsed.

I haven't been at the Giro since.
Yesterday I was on Sega di Ala when Bernal started to fade. And I'll be on the route on stage 20...

Lot of what-ifs for him in this Giro. Had there been at least an average Giro weather in the first two weeks instead of 2013-level atrocity he would probably be the favourite going into last two stages, instead of an outside chance he has now. On the other hand, had stage 16 been held in its entirety, the bad day he had there would probably have dropped him out of the GC picture completely.

Hopefully he puts in a good show tomorrow, even if Bernal has a seemingly safe looking gap.

My guess is on penultimate climb, while Nieve will drill it all the way up San Bernardino, although much depends on composition of the break, and also depends on Almeida attitude. Problem is that when Nieve is done Bernal will probably still have Castro, Martinez and one out of Moscon/Navarez. You already mentioned Almeida. Also have to account for Caruso. Yates needs a 2018 Froome/FInestre or Nibali 2016 Agnello/Risoul kind of miracle.

Yates will try if he has the legs, he always does. As others have said though, I think Ineos being so strong means he will be brought back when he goes long, but if you don’t try, you don’t know.

I guess the plan is to go on Spluga anyway, which is a lot more feasable, and then just hope Bernal cracks/loses enough time that it's still possible if Bernal drops a turd TT

I've really enjoyed Simon's efforts and he is solely responsible for keeping the GC battle engaging following the demise of Landa. Unfortunately he stands little chance as Ineos have adapted. In the first stage where Bernal lost time, Yates appeared keen to shift tempo, actually sitting up at one point with Bernal on his wheel and letting Almeida steal a few bike lengths, before attacking again. Bernal responded and blew up.

Yesterday we saw that Bernal has learnt the Ineos/Sky way. Ignore the competition and ride your own tempo up the climb. That way you dont risk blowing up and losing minutes. This has forced Yates to have to consider a kamikaze attack from distance today, as leaving it to the final ascent is no use to him. Ineos dont seem impreginble either so if Simon is feeling good he may try something audacious even if it risks him falling off the podium.

Also, if Simon is suspected to be a 'fair weather' rider then the Giro is not for him. Spring in north Italy can be extremely soggy.
